Lol you don’t know what you are talking about. If you weren’t aware, processed foods that have been sugared and/or salted are usually cheaper than a healthy alternative. Ergo, poor people cannot anlways afford the quality healthy options which is why people with lower income end up being less physically healthy. One of the many reasons, but just wanted to point out that you clearly don’t shop much at the grocery store

I understand the argument but I think it's bullshit. Eggs, whole chickens, beans/rice, some vegetables is not significantly more expensive than the processed shit people buy at grocery stores.

Part of the argument is people in inner cities have to travel far to get to a grocery store, and that's a legitimate point, at least for some segment of the population.

I’m pretty sure that I said that it’s one of the many reasons many Americans seem to struggle with physical health? Oh yes I sure did say that! Last sentence of my previous post. I’m gonna be as gentle as I can about this but most Americans are not good at cooking. Fair chunk don’t cook at all. Another symptom of being in a robotically capitalistic society where the people at the bottom spend all their time trying to make ends meet while the rich can drink their coffee during breaks at their tennis facilities. And idk what veg you buy but ummmm produce is one of the more expensive foods at the store by weight usually. It’s fragile and required lots of labor so that’s why a huge bag of potato chips costs 2 bucks while an avocado costs more than double that.

*You are right that if I had been oversimplifying it to just that one issue but it’s ok. I understand what you mean. I like to make kitchen sink chicken curry too cuz it can be cheap. And you also make a good point about food accessibility which I agree needs to be addressed. Worldwide truth be told, not just in america

Potatoes being about 50 cents each (half a lb) is actually troubling

I mean I buy many different types of taters, though usually not by the pound but by the sack, tho I gotcha. Kind of apples and oranges as is but umm I hate to check your knowledge about avocados but Mexico can grow them year round so technically avocados have no season. Only those trash cali ones have off years. One of the reasons they are still astronomically expensive is cuz of the damage trump did to our relations with the Mexicans by imposing bs tariffs on them and other people he just didn’t like for whatever reason. Additionally cali avo is expensive because they’re not native and require insane labor and investment. They shouldn’t even be legal to grow cuz Mexico has better and they just grow there naturally. But what do I know?

As far as my general argument goes… government subsidizes certain ag products. Fruits and veg doesn’t get such benefits. So when I say McDonald’s gets propped up and homemade salads do not, it’s true

Agreed, a bit concerning although could be tied to drought conditions across US and perhaps the Ukraine fertilizer impacts.

Our household has embraced the membership stores to get better quality and price on basic commodity and food. Local grocery prices are terrible. I earn good $$ and noticing it hit the finances. Those making less or on fixed income, ouch

I thought federal and state government had plethora of programs to subsidize farmers, not necessarily a specific plant? Like in MN I can get money to clear buckthorn and plant native species.

Potatoes are still atleast an order of magnitude cheaper than potato chips by weight

Let's be honest here: most of these people are poor because they spend all their money on expensive processed engineered to be addicting food & overeating

Every state is free to do their own thing, and I'm sure there's some subsidies for vegetables if you look, but overwhelmingly our subsidies go to staple carbs like corn.

Found this website with a quick google search: https://usafacts.org/articles/federal-farm-subsidies-what-data-says/

The axis labels are messed up and confusing but hovering over the individaul crops gives you their values.

Corn gets 2.2B
Soybeans and sugar each get about 1.6B
Then Cotton at about 900M
Then Wheat at about 600M.

Oranges are the first fruit and they get 430M.

Also found this, which highlights how corn, wheat, soybeans get most of the crop insurance subsidies

Fired for his act of love in the senate
Aidan Maese-Czeropski's act was symbolic and brave, because in a world full of hate, displays of love are rebellious. We shouldn't bend to a party that hates; we must do the opposite

Now more than ever, we need to circle the wagons around Aidan Maese-Czeropski, and say with a unison voice:
Aidan’s termination by Senator Ben Cardin is an affront to individual freedoms, as it sends a chilling message about the consequences of expressing love in a public, political space.
Aidan’s prosecution by the Capitol police is blatant political corruption and weaponization of justice against a marginalized person.
Aidan’s persecution by right-wing nutbars writ large is a threat to his life and the life of every LGBTQ individual in this country.
This cannot stand. The fight has just begun.
