None of the sections of US Code that TFG is being investigated for here neither require the sale or transfer of this information to a foreign entity, nor require that the material be classified or not. Just the possession of TS/SCI information outside of a SCIF alone is a serious infraction.

You didn't address what I said. The Espionage Act has been largely limited to people selling American secrets to an actively hostile foreign (super)power. Deciding to charge the previous President under that act for offenses not remotely related to the sale / provision of information would represent a huge escalation.

I had thought so. DeSantis is the only nominee worth mentioning if Trump were sidelined. And for that reason, we should hope that he is.

Out of all the things that were being held against Trump, and there were plenty, would you disagree that this event has, so far, the greatest potential of actually diminishing his chances to become president again?

We've had roughly a thousand posts in this topic. Perhaps we're ready to conclude: Will the dirt being thrown against him stick this time?

no chance. trumpublicans literally don't care. there's not a single thing he could do that the likes of goon-shill, and all the other bootlickers wouldn't try to justify or downplay.

- politicising a pandemic, leading to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths in america alone, becoming the single biggest source of covid misinformation in the entire world
- endorsing paedophiles for senate
- walking into teenagers dressing rooms to "inspect" them while naked
- cozying up to dictators while attacking long standing allies
- having dozens of credible sexual misconduct allegations against him
- inciting an insurrection after months of actively undermining the electoral process
- constant racist dogwhistling
- starting a trade war with china because he doesn't understand how trade balances work and what they mean
- blackmailing a military ally to get dirt on a political opponent
- locking down the government for a record time in order to secure funding for a ridiculous campaign promise
- tax breaks that went overwhelmingly to the rich, after repeatedly promising millionaires would not see their taxes go down
- spending half his presidency on the golf course after criticising obama for playing too much golf and claiming as a president he wouldn't have time for it
- damaging america's reputation in the world like no president before him
- being best friends with jeffrey epstein and ghislaine maxwell
- securing corrupt business deals and government jobs for his children and extended family
.
.
.

the list is sheer endless. you think a couple of boxes of stolen top secret material will change that? nah. his unhinged followers rather attack the FBI and make up absurd conspiracies than holding their cult leader accountable. they literally don't care, they have tied their whole identity to that clown...

gotta leave all those options open. let's see what they settle on, it's anyone's guess really. the only certainty is that trump did nothing wrong...

I actually think Tim Scott would be a shoo-in if he managed to win the primary. There are plenty of candidates who are capable of winning I think.

Having said that, I don't think they'll charge Trump for this. I imagine that the DOJ wanted this as quiet as possible but Trump made a very public statement about what happened. At the end of the day, they just wanted the documents back and now they have them. What bothers me about all this is that we KNOW the Chinese and other adversaries have tried to infiltrate MAL. If Trump really did have nuclear secrets (ours or another nation's), then that's insanely irresponsible and a massive national security risk.

Imho, the Democratic DoJ went nuclear (pun intended) by making such heavy accusations against Trump. If you investigate a former president for the friggin Espionage Act, you better come up with conclusive and tangible evidence - otherwise, the whole operation will backfire spectacularly in the realm of public opinion.

I mean, were they wrong? He clearly HAD the documents so I don't think the retrieval of the documents was out of line. Whether or not they want to charge him is a different matter. Frankly, it looks like the DOJ is treating Trump as if he's above the law. I think if it were anyone else, they'd be in MUCH more trouble.

Why are you so surprised? At the end of the day, most voters prioritize policy/ideology/vision for the country over the personal conduct of a politician. Sure, a few voters would be willing to see all the policies they hate implemented, the country and the world move in a direction diametrically opposed to what they prefer, all just to uphold some abstract norms or punish a "lack of decorum"... but those are a rare breed.

For every person who votes for Trump because of his tweets and antics, there are at least two who vote for him in spite of it, plus at least one who's pushed into voting for Democrats.

I thought the last president was impeached for trying to find dirt on his most prominent political rival.

Laws don't apply to the Left.

Don't worry though, when the chips are down bullets still work on then.
