Russia
cannot conquer NATO territory because of nuclear deterrent, it can only mount pressure on NATO and preventing neighboring countries from becoming NATO members which is exactly what you see happening.
Perhaps we should have just taken them serious like decades ago don't you think? Would have save countless billions in weapon development on both sides and also saved countless billions lost to unnecessary sanctions
