I don't want to get too far down the rabbit hole but it has to do with religious prophesy. As it turns out, senior members of hamas were well aware about Israeli plans to destroy al aqsa and rebuild the third temple.

Both the internal and regional problems are closely connected and neither can be solved without US assistance, instigating a conflict with Iran could be beneficial to Israel in ensuring continued US support for both issues. If Iran were to officially go to war the US would be forced to intervene as many of their interests apart from Israel would be under threat as a result, US boots on the ground ensures continued support to Israel's internal problems as it would be of strategic interest at that point.

I doubt anything actually comes of this though. Iran will just continue to back militant organizations around Israel and chip away slowly if they are smart. They will complain and maybe have a scary parade or something but ultimately I don't think it will change the situation much. Benefits Israel to keep up these strikes as much as possible IMO

I still remember how Trump ordered the airstrike that took out general Soleimani back in 2019, and how the usual suspects were all "oh no, the madman is triggering a war with Iran". As it turned out, there was no noteworthy response whatsoever.

Was pretty funny in the sense that usually the US/Israel employ some super sophisticated means of targeting Iranian VIPs and Trump basically dropped a nuke on 1 guy
