Then why was it such a huge deal when he fired the head of one of those allegedly subordinate agencies? (A guy that Hilary would have gleefully fired on her first day in office too, lmao.)

The whole Mueller probe saga proves that the president's power over these departments is more limited than you're willing to admit.

He got away with firing Comey and actively obstructed the investigation against himself. You're using an example of something he was allowed to do to make a point that his power is limited.

He only "got away" with it if you define the term to mean anything short of impeachment.

Fact of the matter is that Trump paid a STEEEEEEEEP political price for firing Comey. There's probably no other event which derailed his presidency as much as firing Comey and triggering the Mueller probe.

Kennedy got domed, so I'd say Trump got off easy.

Obstruction only applies if there is an actual crime, you scrub.

What price did he pay exactly?

 If you just took two seconds to google you would realize that's not the case.

No, you're just lying and backtracking as usual. In order for obstruction to be a crime, there must be an underlying crime. Mueller said on national TV that there was no crime.

Mueller did not say there was no crime. His framework specifically stated in the report he was not going to say if there was a crime. Obstruction is a crime no matter if there was a "crime" or not. Otherwise you are incentivized to disrupt all investigations into you because you can't be charged for the obstruction if you're found not guilty. It has been prosecuted before and it should still be prosecuted on Trump

His approval ratings fell sharply after he fired Comey.
The Mueller probe would hang over his presidency like a dark cloud for almost 2 years and led to the indictment of several allies or associates.
His ability to fight his foes within the federal bureaucracy was hampered significantly by constantly being on thin ice in terms of obstruction of justice charges.

I wouldn't describe any of those as a "STEEEEEEP political price".

Approval ratings were gonna go down after honeymoon regardless. The Mueller probe didn't really do anything because congress failed to act. No real threat of impeachment, he pardoned all of his associates.

His "ability to fight his foes within the federal bureaucracy" was not hampered. He kept pulling shitty stunts his entire presidency and still couldn't get anything done because of his fundamental incompetence.

You really undersell how much the Mueller probe neutered Trump politically. Also, the investigation into Trump and Russia were a mainstay of news coverage for 2 years. Of course this bogged down his popularity and contributed to the hardened public opinion on him.

That's his own fault lol. Maybe don't actively obstruct an investigation and take secret meetings that you lied about to everybody and maybe don't work with Russia to spread disinformation for your campaign.

He continued to do obvious fuckery within all of his departments that were blatantly unethical and still obstructionist even after those things. So your point is moot lol.

Trump's popularity didn't fall because he got investigated. It fell because he acted guilty in the face of the investigation. Because he was.
