It's really due to global warming, specifically the amount of co2 in the atmosphere. More co2 in the atmosphere means the oceans get more carbonic acid dissolved in them and pH decreases.

Well, that's not really true, but the same pollution sources that once contributed to acid rain also contribute to increased co2 levels.
