I tend to agree with this sentiment, but I would word it slightly differently - Imho the first correction Israel could do is to blame Netanyahu, but it would not change the cultural status quo in Israel, i.e. their treatment of other peoples (Gaza; The West Bank; Greater Israel). For this reason I honestly dont see them throwing him under the proverbial bus in the short term, as he is doing what they want him to do. It is a huge problem for Israel that its leadership is so radical, and that this has led to policies that have so fundamentally fallen out with the US. Removing Netanyahu is the obvious course, but they are probably banking on a change in leadership, or after the US elections, to reset the relationship with the US. i.e. the ship is still sailing in the same direction. Netanyahu might just be the political piece that has to go for appearances sake. Its a bit of a wait and see. For all intents and purposes Netanyahu has a cult like following where they will forgive any wrongs, and he is acting on the will of the people. Unless someone wants to refute that.

Israel is in a tough spot, it is a religious state, unwilling to lose its cultural / religious identity, which is a credible fear, because it would lose this identity over time if it normalized relations with those it deems lesser human. i.e. if it were to act and exist like a western country. Its leadership is very right-wing and employing policies that every other country in the UN is distancing itself from. At the end of the day Israel's population is only 9 million - about the same population as London or New York. Quite frankly they dont make enough babies and they are too busy alienating the 400M people surrounding them. The road they are going on is a dead end. If you treat people like animals they will behave like animals and the crime of ethnic cleansing does not go away, forever.

The released hostages reported being held by “uninvolved” civilians often in the children’s room. Gaza is rotted. Gaza needs to go through denazification first before taking other steps forward.
