Kiev is not a warzone and Russia was given a heads up that Biden is coming. Biden going there is not noteworthy. Literally dozens of EU politicians and holywood stars have been to Kiev for photo shoots in the last year. What exactly is special about him going there that anyone should care about?

This might be your dumbest take ever on PaRD. Truly an epic shitpost.

How exactly is he wrong though? Russia clearly has no interest in heightened US involvement in this war since they'd get wrecked. You know what would dramatically increase the probability of direct US involvement? Killing their fucking president with a Russian cruise missile or hit squad in the middle of Kyiv!

To answer the stupid questions, of course Kiev is a warzone, in the context that I'm using the term. Was Bagram airbase not a warzone when presidents visited it? Sure, it hadn't been bombed in quite a while, but it's inside of a country where a war is going on. Russia is at war with Ukraine, and they have the capability to bomb Kiev. In the initial invasion they tried to overthrow Kiev. Kiev is not secured by the American military. Thus, he visited a warzone that the American military does not control.

I don't know why the US government giving Russia a heads up for deconfliction purposes is relevant here. Actually, that point simply works in my favor. What's there to deconflict if the area isn't a war zone? Lol.

Sure, other high profile people have rightly visited Kiev in order to support a sovereign government repelling an unjust invasion by a neighboring superpower. Obviously Russia has calculated that bombing Kiev further at this moment in the war is not in their interests. But so what? The American president isn't Sean Penn, or even the UK prime minister. His protection is much more important than those figures, and if he were to be killed, the consequences would be exponentially worse. Russia killing Biden in Ukraine could very easily result in World War 3, much more easily than America sending them military equipment. Why is a Trumpist isolationist not able to understand that?

I know you're pretending to be stupid on the last point, but I'll answer for anyone who might want to know. An American president visiting a war zone(which is not secured by the American military) is a big deal because it signals our support with Ukraine and our opposition to adversarial governments invading their neighbors. The American-led global order has been such a success because we deter actors like Russia, China, and others from doing this sort of thing. War is bad for people, countries, regions, and the world. So, if Russia were to successfully invade Ukraine and overthrow the government, while the West simply watches(which is what you and other Trump cultists support), it would have consequences beyond this conflict. The world would be more violent, less prosperous, and less free.

I understand this requires some critical thinking, and more nuance than slogans like "America First" and "war is bad mkay". But it happens to be the truth.

It is highly notable when the president of the United States, the worlds strongest military power and Russias greatest adversary, visits somewhere that Russia is trying to take.

You have to be kind of brain dead to not see how that's incredibly notable.

I answered below your post, but do you really think the entirety of the security calculus for the Secret Service to protect Biden is "whether or not Putin decides to intentionally launch a missile at him"?

We need a stronger term than willful ignorance to describe what you and ofthevoid are doing here.

Also, the "security" aspect is simple one dimension of what ofthevoid brought up.

Yes, truly historic, Biden is stunning and brave. Should I be surprised you're fellating Biden for visiting Kiev?

What's embarrassing is thinking Biden is some great figure for this or this act in any way being noteworthy. It faded out of the media within a day because most normal people don't care and would blankly stare at some dumbass trying to explain how this is noteworthy, and simply reply 'so what'.

Like I said, dozens of leaders and popular figures made the trip, it's not that big a deal.

The term you're looking for is dishonesty. Void and Black will lie to your face in back to back posts as I've demonstrated dozens of times.

[bad faith troll mode]
"All it shows is how unimportant and weak Biden actually is. Definitely the least important US president in decades!"
[/bad faith troll mode]

But on a more serious note: of course it is a notable event in the sense such a visit of the POTUS in unsecured regions of conflict is rare. But I really don't get why Biden's visit should be considered to be particularly courageous or to have a particularly high symbolic value.

The most notable visit to Kyiv by foreign heads of government during this war took place on March 15 2022, when the PMs of Poland, Czechia and Slovenia visited Zelensky in Kyiv while the city was literally being sieged and shelled by Russian troops who were standing on the outskirts of the city. THAT was a state visit which really risked their own security in favor of sending a strong signal about standing on the side of Ukraine.
