WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump has repeated it so much it's almost part of his stump speech: He's going to put $100 million of his own money into his campaign before Election Day. But new filings show he's got a long way to go if he's going to hit that mark.

The Republican presidential nominee has given a mere $33,000 to his campaign this month. That means he needs to pony up another $44 million to fulfill the boast that's become a familiar refrain in interviews and rallies over the past several days.

"I will have more than $100 million in the campaign," Trump told CNN on Wednesday. "And I am prepared to go much more than that."

Over the course of his presidential bid, the New York businessman who says he is worth $10 billion has given about $56 million of his own money. The majority of that spending occurred in the GOP primary. During the general election, his campaign gifts slowed to about $2 million each month.

Neither Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks nor spokesman Jason Miller responded to emailed questions late Thursday inquiring whether Trump still planned to contribute as much as he has said he would.

Trump gave about $31,000 through the first 19 days of October — the period covered in the filing released Thursday— all of which went to cover rent and payroll. Trump also gave an additional $2,600 on Oct. 20, other filings show.

I guess even Trump realizes he can't win this election.

i don't think he could have handled covering this election while staying in character. That smug man of the people character wouldn't have worked with these headlines and he'd just get mad, start yelling, and the show would have been less funny IMO. Trevor Noah has done a bang up job though, i like his South African man experiences america take on it.

I tried to like Trevor and this show since stewart left, but Trevor comes across as flat, and it's clear much of the time he didnt grow up in our culture with the things he misses or is off about. I think Jon would have been fine with this election, he set the bar exceedingly high that virtually anyone filling his shoes was bound to be a let down for awhile.

i like the feel of a foreigner covering such a crazy election, when shit got over the line Stewart regularly broke the 4th wall and tried to "talk sense" into the audience. I think that would be a Daily occurrence if he was covering this cycle. His tone would be too incredulous to be humorous IMO. But that seat was never going to be filled properly once he left, he was really one of a kind. Still waiting on him to make a political run, he'd win IMO.

I would be extremely impressed if he was a Clinton plant.

Because it would show an extraordinary level of planning/foresight on Clinton's part?

I think the only evidence needed is the cordial and friendly relationship the Trumps had with the Clintons previous to this election. When barrack beat Hilldog Trump talked at length about how great Hillary was. Then he gets in the primary and all of a sudden she's the worst person alive. Plus they share the scandal of the sex island Bill and Don used to jet off to, wonder why that's not being reported.....
