is there video evidence of him receiving the gun from his friend? or sworn testimony?
possession of a firearm is a misdemeanor for a minor, crossing state lines is a felony.
and defense lawyer might advise that he claim he got it from a friend, and that the friend purchased it, etc.
in any case its entirely speculation. the biggest piece of evidence would be a receipt by that friend on the purchase of that gun, which still wouldnt be hard proof it wasn't given to kyle or purchased on behalf of kyle. purchasing such a gun in WI is easier than IL.
really tho its not important to me, id be fine if there were 27 cell phone videos of Kyle getting handed the gun. wouldnt bother me.
I'll give you the most left source i can find

"The gun belonged to his friend, a Wisconsin resident. The gun never left the State of Wisconsin. Truth always prevails."
"Additionally, there is no evidence the gun was ever physically possessed by Kyle Rittenhouse in Illinois," the state's attorney's office added.
You're gonna have to prove it was in IL
Otherwise you're "Guilty until proven innocent"
