I don't see DeSantis trying to say that he's coming for Peter Thiel, he's using the rainbow flag as a proxy for modern left gender ideology. The rest of the clip focuses on transgenderism exclusively. Trump is hitting on the same issues (see TiStuff above) because it's popular with the Republican base particularly. The problem is framing, adopting democratic-talking points might be fine in a primary, but it's a disaster-in-waiting for the general.
Running as a moderate won't work; it fits too neatly into Trump's argument that DeSantis is a globalist sell out. DeSantis also can't adopt a Youngkin sort of positivity, it's not in his character. Trump's legal troubles have solidified support in his base, so he has to be careful about attacking Trump's complete incompetence lest he look like he's siding with a weaponized federal bureaucracy. There are not a lot of good options at this point. The original strategy was to let Trump moan about the 2020 election, that's not an option anymore.
Well starting off the clip by focusing on all of LGBT instead of the 'T' already poisoned that well. Trump has threaded that needle by taking the sane position that he supports the LGB movement, doesn't care what T does if they're minding their own business, but opposes child abuse, grooming and exploitation. That DeSantis ad is clearly crossing the line onto the gaybashing side of the field, even if its only tiptoeing across that line, and isn't singling out the radical transgender ideology being forced on children.
Republicans have secured an absolute whopper of a flip on education and parenting against Democrats, who used to be powered by suburban soccer moms. Now Republicans have managed to unite white people, black people, muslims (!), soccer moms, etc all railing against Democrats on what used to be one of their most reliable issues. That's why "Moms for Liberty" is shaping up to be this election season's Tea Party. And DeSantis is screwing the pooch if he's going to go on a gaybashing tear to try to outflank Trump instead of channeling the centrist way that people actually agree upon
sometimes you just don't have good options to win and you shouldn't play at all. Amy Klobuchar got that memo lmao
