Israel acts as the US government left brain hemisphere. Many US representatives have blood loyalty pacts. Remember the boycott and divest Israel movement? During that same timeframe, pro-Israel legislation and other nonsense was hijacking the legislature. More legislation proposed during those months to benefit Israel then peon US constituents. US representatives were actually lobbying against first amendment rights.
It's hilarious to think US can de-couple from Israel. Even academic objective critiques are recast as anti-Semitic. I want to believe, it just not reality.
The US will maintain its ties to Israel for as long as possible to keep a grip on the Middle East IMO, not because they are beholden to Israel but because it is a useful means of projecting US power abroad, as it becomes less useful and more of a liability I suspect that relationship will change quite quickly and they will go the way of Rhodesia or SA.
Israel could disappear tomorrow and the US would be fine, the opposite is not true, what US citizens want is irrelevant as it is on most issues, as long as Israel is seen by the establishment as an area of steetegic importance they will support it. If it becomes a liability those same slime balls that swore blood oaths would be denouncing them as terrorists, and if not they would be replaced.
