The Speaker of the House referred to federal law enforcement as "storm troopers".

Yeah why would anybody refer to unmarked unidentifiable federal officers disappearing minority protesters into unmarked vehicles under orders from the executive as storm troopers.

It truly baffles the mind. It can only be hyperbole with no basis in reasonable comparison.

The Speaker of the House referred to federal law enforcement as "storm troopers". Maxine Waters champions mob violence. We don't need to go to the Squad to find examples of extremism within the Democratic party.

It wasn't a coup because no attempt was made to seize the powers of state. I'm not sure what "insurrection" even means in this context. Was it a "violent uprising against the government"? Unless we plan to charge every riot with being an insurrection, I would think insurrections should be made of sterner stuff.

maxine waters is the best counterexample to MTG and her ilk, but even she has been cucked into the "peaceful protest" narratives whereas upon resistance MTG triples down without evidence.

as to the insurrection question, riots on the electoral vote seem to count a whole lot more than a riot on a dollar general store.

Rep. Cori Bush is actually the most insane member of the Dem House caucus. She believes in a Nigerian "faith healer" who claims to have cured her from covid within 30 minutes over the phone, saying covid is caused by demons who have to be expelled from the body. He also claims to be able to cure AIDS, cancer and paralysis, and even resurrect people from the dead.

On her own (!) LinkedIn page, she lists being a pastor for the St. Louis chapter of the "Kingdom Embassy International Church", the global network of churches of this guru/charlatan.

Maxine Waters is a career hack and genuinely stupid, but she's not crazy enough to believe in that kind of shit. This is on the level of the infamous "alien sperm doctor" on the Republican side...

ooofff yeah that's whacko. I still give the title to Maxine as she clearly wants to stoke dangerous narratives for support then sheepishly backs off them. as does Cori minus backing off. BUT Maxine's ideas are more readily taken up by people and acted upon, whereas people arent lining up for faith healing in the same numbers as rioters flock downtown hoping looting breaks out.

Cori Bush is also a registered nurse, so she should know better. What's even more funny is that she has constantly demanded politics to "follow the science" when it came to covid. Well, the faith-healing phone session with her guru to cure her own covid infection doesn't strike me as particularly scientific.

But you're of course right - demagoguery and the spread of inciting narratives by people who have a big platform as elected officials is more dangerous and despicable than generic craziness which stays limited to one's private life.
And yes, Trump's mountain of lies about the stolen election, which ultimately led to the storming of the Capitol, is a prime example for that.

one of the better reasons to just ignore the furthest fringe, the most crazy are the least dangerous. centrists arent dangerous. but in between we find people who can sway others with ideas that are often misleading and/or dangerous.

on police reform we have tweener lefties trying to further narratives that being a black male is a death sentence and that following police orders is optional, on the right we have liars claiming being a cop is a death sentence and a terribly dangerous job that justifies them being trigger happy stressed out goons. both lies.

i just have a hard time making a balanced assessment of the election fraud issue. we have dangerous liars on the right and people on the left simply exaggerating how safe the voting process is. ironically 4 years after claiming it was wide open to Russian interference AND 4 years of claiming trump failed to bolster security for the next election. then he loses and all of a sudden its perfectly secure. still a less dangerous idea than Soros/Chavez funded vote swapping machines based on sworn affidavits of people who refused to show up in court, Rudi could only herd the whackos. and not a single person with voting machine expertise, just one whacked out IT lady who prob cant do more than reset routers and install Microsoft Office from CD.

Yes, that's more or less my take on the election fraud thing too. Whether an election was the safest ever or rife with fraud apparently depends on who won these days.

I would say that Democrats did a better job exploiting the covid environment when it came to voting regulations. They ruthlessly seized the opportunity to pass turnout-increasing measures which was a net positive for them. Considering that the 2020 election unexpectedly turned out to be the closest ever in a certain sense*, I can understand that Republicans are salty as fuck and need a coping mechanism.

*Not on the presidential level, but when it comes to the overall power in Washington. In 2020, a uniform swing of only 1.16% separated a Democratic from a Republican trifecta!

while i agree that the Dems seized on the chance, im in favor of ANY measures to increase voting turnout short of a compulsory vote. American voter turnout is shamefully low. and when we view it through the lens that turnout is often lowest in low income minority urban areas because there is a sentiment that neither side truly seeks to help them (a sentiment i agree with on its face) increasing vote becomes all the more important.

The GOP's admittedly effective strategy of winning more when less people vote is a stain on the party and american politics generally.
