Did the hired freelancers just film or pull triggers? Also, seems unreasonable to hold AP to a higher standard than Israeli intelligence with being able to vet the freelancers prior knowledge of attack. Read one article about case and it was not very clear how they participate beyond being there documenting the scenes. Seems more of a case suppress journalism using happenstance bad actors or black eye the AP.

well theres a few lens for it
moral culpability, legal culpability, journalistic ethics, and by which country's standards

Israel doesn't have the same right of free speech as America. We've got such a wide latitude given to protect the press that even journalists embedded with terrorists, aware of their attack plans in advance and failing to take action to prevent them, could still be protected both criminally and civilly as long as no duty existed under a good samaritan law. They could still be plainly morally compromised. If they were given access purely on the promise they wouldn't compromise their source and the plan, that opens a question of journalistic ethics and whether it can really outweigh a massacre. Which I still think is an easy question, it can't. But it reminds me of the law & order episode that showed a lawyer representing a serial killer refusing to disclose privileged information even if it could save lives, and the can of worms that opens. Are journalistic privileges as sacrosanct?

But all that's thrown out the window because this is Israel and you can be thrown in prison for all of that stuff. And then the question falls to what sort of vetting responsibility the AP had, and whether their use of journalists they knew were embedded with a terrorist organization, creates liability when they were paying said journalists. Since after all, that means the AP should know that its funding terrorism in an more than indirect way.

Survivors of the 10/7 invasion are filing a lawsuit against the Associated Press, naming 4 embedded journalists who were participating in the attacks and freelancing for the AP
The AP would pay for photographs from supposed freelance sources in Gaza, who were actually embedded with Hamas and had foreknowledge of the attacks
So it brings a question of civil culpability for the AP supporting terrorism

oh wow what a shocker they have turned it into a money making venture.

The AP made money publishing the rape, torture, and murder of Israelis. After working directly with so-called "terrorists" for that footage.

The "money making venture" was already made. By the AP. Why should the AP be allowed to keep that money, when they had forewarning and could have prevented the massacre?

Were I Israel, I'd simply ban the AP from Israel and openly declare them active combatants, and target any so-called "journalist" from the AP caught in Gaza.

I didn't say they should, I hope everyone involved loses all their money fighting stupid legal battles.

Lmao you want Israel to actively target the AP

The AP worked with Hamas, they're working with Hezbollah, they've worked with the PA, they worked with the White Helmets, they worked with ISIS. How is it they always seem to be working with the enemy? Why are they always on-hand at the very beginning of these attacks?

The Associated Press's main defense, in ALL of these cases, is that these so-called journalists are "contract workers" and not "real employees". The problem, as I see it, is that they've been working actively with the enemy, had foreknowledge of hundreds of attacks over the past decade or two, and rather than reporting their knowledge of the attacks so that massacres could be avoided, they profited off the footage of the massacres.

I'd say that Israelis who were maimed and crippled during October 7th are going to need a lifetime of care and assistance, which is brutally expensive. It's poetic justice that the AP should have to pay for it. And would be even better if they were formally recognized as enemy combatants as well.
