So just had a call with my sister (doctor working in a hospital in NL). She confirms that we really shouldn't be treating this as a 'old and sick people' thing, several people aged ~30-40 and without comorbidities are currently permanently on ventilation in Brabant. The 80% with mild symptoms still holds. Hospitals here are preparing for the worst, as it seems that people first get their incubation period (~2 weeks), then experience mild illness, and only then develop the need for ventilation. ICU's are being modified to become temporary sick bays with as many ventilators as possible.
So even for us young folks it can be pretty fucking scary.
Age 30-40 is where the lethality curve actually gets off the ground. According to the CDC slides I got at work it goes something like
>80 : 15%
70-80 : 8%
60-70 : 5%
50-60 : 2.5%
40-50 : 1%
30-40 : 0.5%
It's mostly an older people thing, but not exclusively, especially since like 80% of the cases are in the 30-70 rang, so most of the lethality will still be in the lower age ranges.
