Biden isn't president because he did anything that was particularly strong or smart or savvy, he's president because Trump had the bad fortune of seeing his presidency shredded by a once-in-a-century pandemic and failing to live up to the task.

I'm not a huge fan of Bernie and don't think, nor ever claimed, that he's super popular. After he won the Nevada caucuses, he had all the momentum and a chance to reach out to the rest of the party and unite it behind him. Instead, he chose to shit all over them, basically announcing "yes, this is a hostile takeover of your party, and there's nothing you can do about it". One week later, all the establishment forces in the party worked together behind the scenes to rally behind Biden, so that they could stop Bernie, which they easily did because Bernie, like you said, isn't all that popular, not even among Democrats.

You said that

The attempt at repealing Obamacare is an example of a party trying to invoke big, sweeping change based on a weak trifecta, in spite of the obvious electoral risks.

Fine, I can agree with that. But it's contradicting what you said earlier, namely that the party would shy away from passing sweeping legislation on slim majorities because of the electoral risk.

I disagree. Obviously Trump got very unlucky and wasn't up for the job. However, Trump would have beaten A LOT of Democrat candidates i.e. Harris, Warren, Sanders, Buttigieg, Booker, etc. Clearly, there's something about WHO Biden is that got him over the top. The Biden coalition is uniquely strong IMO and I don't think there are any politicians out there who can replicate it. You have to give credit where credit is due.

You keep saying "establishment forces" like it's some nefarious Jewish cabal. To take a page out of James Carville's book, it's the voters, stupid. The voters chose Biden, not 20 people in a smoke filled room.

You're conflating "true wins" with "big, sweeping change." Wins can be small, medium, or large. My point is that bills are more serious when they have a chance of actually passing.

I don't disagree with the notion that Trump would have defeated most other 2020 candidates and that something about Biden put him over the top. I just think these factors were more circumstancial than rooted in Biden's persona. Is it really Biden who should get credit for the coalition that rallied behind him in 2020? Imho, a significant chunk of this coalition was an anti-Trump coalition, rather than a pro-Biden coalition.

We also shouldn't forget that the pandemic covered a lot of Biden's weaknesses, conducting a front porch basement campaign played right into his hands, as did Trump's trouble holding his usual large rallies. And last but not least, let's not forget how much he was helped by the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent BLM protests, This helped drive up black turnout, which was crucial for Biden's electoral math, but looked potentially anemic before Floyd/BLM.

In the same vein, the Floyd murder and BLM protests caused upscale suburbs and corporate America to fully turn on Trump once and for all. It goes without saying that Biden/Democrats can't count on race riots helping them politically every four years going forward. Aaaaand of course the country's cultural, academic, bureaucratic, intellectual and economic elites were putting all of their institutional power in the balance to undermine Trump's reelection, which caused them to rally behind Biden to an unprecedented degree.

All of these factors contributed to the 2020 result, but they are external/circumstancial factors and not reflective of an intrinsic strength of Biden. To me, Biden isn't uniquely strong, he just happened to be the right man in the right moment in 2020. I'm not sure at all if he can replicate his 2020 coalition in 2024.

Oh come on, that's revisionist history. Fact of the matter is that the Democratic elites had largely avoided taking sides in the primary until after Nevada. Biden finished 4th in Iowa, 5th in NH and was crushed 40% to 18% by Bernie in Nevada. Bernie had just won 2.5 out of the first 3 contests and had all the momentum, then sent out his infamous "they can't stop us"-tweet.

Then, things suddenly turned around 180° within a single week. Clyburn endorses Biden, followed by Biden winning SC by the expected margin, neither over- nor underperforming expectations. Obama, still the pretty much undisputed leader of the party, works behind the scenes to close the ranks behind Biden. Within two days, Buttigieg and Klobuchar end their campaign and come on stage at a Biden rally to endorse him. With all the non-progressive factions of the party united behind Biden, he easily crushes on Super Tuesday against Bernie and Warren who split the progressive line.

Chances are that Biden would have won in the end, even without party elites orchestrating behind the scenes on his behalf, but it's imho far from a guarantee - and it would have been a long, drawn-out contest and seen Biden limp into the general election.

The way I see it, party elites, call them "20 people in a smoke filled room" if you want, settled on Biden and strongly signalled to undecided primary voters that he is the candidate the party should rally around to stave off the Bernie's insurgency and maximize their chances in the general against Trump. And there were a ton of undecided voters, looking for any clues from party elites. Keeping this in mind and looking at how badly Biden had done in the three contests before the party elites had closed the ranks around him, and how much better he performed after they did, I would say that it was indeed party elites that chose him, a majority of the party base just went along with it.

Hunter Biden's full iphone data dump has now become public after being cracked on 4chan
all kinds of goodies already being found, for example Hunter Biden was searching (rather unsuccessfully, I hope) for child porn, specifically looking up "12 year olds" on porn sites
There are apparently 450 gigabytes of backed up data that people are sifting through. At a minimum I can relay that his password was "Juliais26"

also I swear to god 95% of all videos and images from Hunter Biden's icloud are of him, nude. How can one man take that much nude footage of himself? I don't tape myself riding down waterslides nude, nor do I ride down waterslides nude to begin with. Heard of chaffing? He seems less interested in recording the prostitutes he hires and more in recording himself.

Okay, this is further proof of what we already knew, that Hunter is a useless fuckup and a disgusting piece of trash. I don't see the political relevance though. Every single person who still cares about Hunter Biden and his laptop in the summer of 2022 is already voting straight ticket Republican.

I find it kinda amusing how one faction of the GOP argues that their extremist stance on abortion will have no electoral repercussions because voters are too busy being concerned with inflation, gas prices, the looming recession, crime, immigration and so on, while another faction seems to think that the wider electorate (outside of the hardcore partisans) will care about Hunter.

I think this story will be proof if the CNN's of the world don't want Biden to run again.
If they run this story like COVID, Biden won't run in 2024 which would make everyone happy. But yea he is a fuck up, degenerate that has some serious addiction issues.
I am glad he's not part of the WH team *jared/erik/ivanka etc..

That's the big problem for Democrats and their media allies, isn't it? Biden not running in 2024 would only make them happy if they find a suitable replacement. Harris was supposed to be the heiress-apparent, but she's clearly not up to the task. Until they can settle on a new standard bearer, they have to roll with Biden and circle the wagons around him and his fuckup son.

I think the greater political story was always one of how Joe Biden was tolerating, enabling and covering up for his son's fuckups and engaging in overt corruption including selling American interests out to our foreign competitors, and how that toxic relationship escalated to the flashpoint of an actual shooting war that resulted in tens of thousands of deaths. Whether or not Hunter actually googled up kiddie porn is less relevant than whether the internet investigators delving into his icloud find any nuggets of information about China/Russia/Ukraine. Especially if the world continues to spiral into chaos from the ensuing effects like famine and war escalations.

I think framing it like that is vastly blowing the contribution of the Bidens out of proportion. Even back in the 90s, Putin has been calling the dissolution of the Soviet Union the greatest political catastrophe of the 20th century (not the second world war which cost his country 20 million lives...). Imho, his revisionist, neo-imperialist desires were always there and didn't need to be triggered by Western interference - countries from what he claims as his sphere of influence wanting to go their own way is enough to trigger him into waging war against them, be it propaganda wars, hybrid wars or a conventional war.
