Trump was a unique candidate and President because he represented the best and worst of the American spirit of opportunity. He was brash when necessary then didnt turn it off when it was needed. which again is fine, but his winning hand in 2016 he tried to play again in 2020 which wasnt the right call

Disagree that he tried to play thesame hand in 2020. (if that's what you mean by "he tried to play again in 2020") His main argument in 2016 was that the political class is corrupt and he was going to take the economy and government back for the people. It's really not surprising why he won when you look at his closing arguments ad in 2016.

His major play in 2020 was that Biden is a secret communist.

Watch his 2016 closing arguments, then his 2020, and try to convince yourself it's from the same candidate.

Trump's major reason for losing in 2020 is because he surrounded himself with sycophants and only indulged in OAN, Newsmax, and Fox News. He totally lost his touch.

Great video.

I think a lot of this comes down to whether you were offended by what Trump and his supporters did post-election. It's sort of like COVID denial... if you think it was a hoax, you don't wear a mask or get a vaccine shot. If Trump's effort to overturn the election and the Capitol insurrection weren't a big deal, you are content with the Republican party aligning with Trump and his lies, and those who differ from that talking point(like Liz Cheney) deserve to be ousted.

There's just a fundamental difference between people who were offended by Trump and his supporters' actions, and people who were not. The Democratic framing of people who believe in democracy vs. people who don't is a reasonable one.

Like I said: the Trump 2020 campaign suffered from this huge, gaping void because its intended main pillar, the booming economy, got shredded and made irrelevant by covid. Once covid fucked up the plans AND demanded things from Trump that he was unable to provide (compassion, leadership, competent technocratic handling of a crisis), he entered a political death spiral. The things you describe are the symptoms of this death spiral, not its cause.

Trump filed a bunch of lawsuits quarreling over election minutiae, most of them failing, most of them even if successful probably would of fell short of changing anything. Most people saw it for what it is, just being a sore loser and basically used various legal means to try to change the result. Nothing wrong with using the legal system if you think something is/was wrong, it's actually an example of a healthy justice system in action. Icemage on the other hand continues to clutch at his pearls. No man, most of us don't take it so seriously because we're not hyper obsessed with Trump. He was president, now he's not. Move on with your life.

The way Trump lobbied the Georgia secretary of state and, I think, the GOP-controlled MI state legislature to blatantly overturn election results was deeply undemocratic and dangerous. He did not just file some hopeless lawsuits, he used his political power to put pressure on officials. Honestly, I consider this stuff to be worse than his role in the Capitol riots.

That 'pressure' was immediately publicized and nothing happened, instead, he got slack for it. To me, that shows a lack of power more than anything.

Sure, you want people to give Trump a pass on his effort to overturn the election and disrupt Congress certifying the election for his opponent. I will not do that, because I care about democracy. You do not.

But feel free to keep showing all of us here on PaRD that the categories I laid out were accurate, and you neatly sit in the anti-democratic one.

lmao

Give him a pass. I can't care less what happens to Trump today or in the future and honestly, I hope Biden does a good job as president. Not rising to your level of obsession doesn't make me anti-democracy just makes me a normal person who has a proper gage of what's important to think about in life.

I'm pretty sure you would actually be ecstatic and clap like a seal in joy if Trump ran again, while most of us* conservatives would roll our eyes and give a collective sigh because here we go with the drama again.
