My only hope for this country going forward is the further re-emergerence of the labor movement.

It's weird to watch people defend Corp. no matter how shitty they act.
GeT a DifFERnt JoB !!!

I defend Corp. In principle or at least try to convey the other side because the hippies don't realise not every Corp or business has thousands of employees and is nasty soulless evil entity. Majority of businesses are only few people working together for the betterment of their community

Getting a different a job is a solution. No one said it's going to be an easy one but if you don't at least think of a possibility then you deserve a kick in a teeth for being that naive.
Its clear to see that crying and complaining isn't a solution which is what most of the defenders of this thread have been doing.

Come to think of it 80% of this forum is let's cry about "insert topic" as therapy. My job is easy 90% of my posts are "grow a pair you snowflake"

BTW just to be clear I don't support Kellogg's and their shitty products. Their treatment of workers especially recently is very insensitive. However I can at least understand their position and give viable alternatives

All of this stuff is illegal here in australia, taking away benefits as a form of punishment is illegal and would see the company utterly destroyed in our courts.

Finally some progress. That would be a great step and actually surprised why it isn't normal business practice. Making promises and then going back on your word is just plain unethical full stop.

Shitty take lol. That's a typical sunk cost fallacy on display. Invested 15 years of my life instead of changing jobs or I could leave and get better pay or just stay in this progressively worse position.

I can imagine my parents and grand parents working all their life in same job
with livable income because they have. I am just not retarded to assume that it applies to this century anymore.
Like I said this thread just demonstrates old stuck in the past mentality. You have offered nothing but bitching and crying.

All I can say if you carry on thinking and not willing to adapt you might be in for a rude awakening yourself.

u still cant read, it wasnt progressively worse, it was fine for decades then only got bad recently.

I read just fine both my parents and grandparents have had staple jobs for a long long time, I have perfect insight of their situation.
The living costs have been increasing dramatically, especially real estate for a long time industries have been changing more and more dramatically all around the world. You mean to tell me that these people working in what essentially is a sugar and corn packaging company hadn't considered the possibility? This is a Mega Corp not a family loving mom and pop store, from day one you should be expecting to get fired. You are so replaceable like an ant not to mention of years and years of build up to this.

Here is some history https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/kelloggs-strike-labor-wages-overtime-1261994/

If you are that naive you deserve a kick in a teeth. But hey maybe some people are more advanced in their experience. Who knows maybe these people are hard working simps who practice the power of ignorance on a daily basis.
We have people like you trying to justify their lack of awareness.

I really hope dinosaurs like you can evolve in your thinking for your own sake. Maybe you don't question or make projections, maybe you haven't been exposed to an idea or experience that you can be fired from a job especially from a Mega corporation.
Maybe Elon Musk decides to fire 1000 people tomorrow because he decides he don't like black people or maybe Bitcoin is just another shit coin that has no real value to investors other then speculation? Would you be surprised as well?
People can lose millions overnight the risk is there. Just don't be tweeting with the rest of them and making another cry thread on d2jsp.

I work in the automation industry and actively make people who work in a factory setting have harder and harder jobs and worse and worse lives.

if it was your sloppy grandpa working in these factories i could replace them in an after noon, but a modern employee takes me 3 days.

let me know where u work so i can design a machine to make your life hell plz.

https://sports.yahoo.com/kellogg-permanently-replace-striking-workers-154720822.html

in october 1400 or so workers went on strike to protest a myriad of issues.

-7 day work weeks sometimes for as many as 120 days in a row
-company looking to reduce benifits from health to retirement
-company rakes record profits, pays massive dividends, and CEO gets raise
-company creates "transitional employment" so called onramp to full time employment, largely never delivers
-lack of grieving/funeral days, holiday days off, etc.
-require employees on short notice to cover for another employee that calls in sick, sometimes with as little as 10 mins notice
-company complained about pay of employees, which was largely driven by required overtime and holiday pay

well they were on strike for months, company offered a 3% raise, employees rejected it, and a few days later are now all being replaced just in time for christmas.

my opinion is that of the 1400 or so fired employees they'll be replaced with 1200 or less new employees and automate a large number of processes as well as phase out temp employees to automate even more. having worked with Kellogg in the past they're perhaps the most cutthroat of all our customers, true scumbags that just chase profits for stock prices.

What kind of third world country is this factory? Kongo?

Reads one article concludes that is a sudden/recent event in Kellogg's that workers go on strike with no prior history of years of build up.

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/kelloggs-strike-labor-wages-overtime-1261994/

https://www.leftvoice.org/85-hour-weeks-6-weeks-straight-no-days-off-kellogg-workers-on-strike/

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Kellogg%27s_strike

Many articles and history of Kellogg's problems go back to at least 2013 how the fk is +8 years of instability including a pandemic while working in a company for 10-15 years as you say "sudden"?
Are you fkn thick or can't you read?

u have a fetish for proving you cant read well?

i said many of the WORST (read: not all) issues are in recent years, and that employees union and Kellogs barely made a deal on the last number of agreements with employee union making numerous concessions.

this is what the companies do, they make bad deals, make promises of concessions on the next deal, then the next deal is actually more bad things for employees covered up with minor raises or in this case with temporary employee promises that the company just failed to put in place and hid behind legal language to avoid a suit by the union.

in any case if you have people who have 10 or more years of severance packages and 2013 hits, and they think "it cant get worse" and year after year it does, it leads to 2020 and they strike.

also these plants employ most of the town, there arent even enough other jobs for employees to leave and go work elsewhere, they have to relocate.

but sure, people with severance packages in 2013 should have left and moved to another town to get a job base on the first sign they work for a bad company....... you really are fucking hopeless man.

im done responding, u just want to brag about how bad of loyalty you and ur grandpa have for companies. again, lmk ur job and ill fucking eat you and spit out the bones. ill design a machine that is specifically meant to give you carpultunnel and watch u crawl to the chow line just like the other plebs who think they cant be replaced.
