The thing under self defense doctrine is this: he knowingly put himself into the situation. I'm not sure he can claim self defense when in fact, he went looking for trouble.

That's what he was doing originally. I wonder what caused the escalation for him to be chased down. If the prosecution doesn't make a compelling case that he initiated the conflict, he should walk on any murder charge IMO.
