Mathematics is until you bring any facet of the real world into it.

Derp. Can't even read.

A bachelor's degree in pretty much any field can be obtained with memorization. I've seen truly dumb people with physics degrees.

what are you even talking about, math doesnt end when you "bring any facet of the real world into it"

are you fucking kidding me

you must be a troll, shame on me for falling for this retarded bs

Yeah, not surprising you dont understand math when you have this level of reasoning ability

This is only true when you are talking about mathematical ideas in the abstract. The minute you bring any aspect of the real world, like how you teach math, this stops being the case.

I see a lot of people who are just looking for things to get triggered over. I can't imagine how fragile you must be.

Oh please, just look at the statement from the Education Ministry of Canada that the OP was citing:

Quote
"Math, [...] has been “used to normalize racism and marginalization of non-Eurocentric mathematical knowledges,” and explains that taking a “decolonial” and “anti-racist approach” to teaching math will outline its “historical roots and social constructions” to students."

By their own words, Canada's government wants to stress "non-eurocentric mathematical knowledge", a "decolonial" and "anti-racist" didactical focus and emphasize the "historical roots and social constructions" behind mathematics.

If you can't smell the bullshit and the lefty indoctrination attempt from this kind of language, I really can't help you.

Including "non-eurocentric knowledge" and shining a light on underlying social constructions can make sense in social sciences (e.g. history) or culture (dance, music, etc.), but not when it comes to mathematics. Mathematical knowledge is universal; stressing crt- or sjw-language and concepts will do nothing to improve math didactics or help black and hispanic students with their learning of math.

yeah sure bro, i somehow managed to get a physics and chemistry degree without understanding math

listen, your post does not even make sense

to refer to the original post: mathematics is an objective and pure discipline

kid, you "somehow managed to get a physics and chemistry degree" while explicitly denying the FACT that co2 and other greenhouse gases trap heat by absorbing infrared radiation, and are therefore crucial factors in regards to anthropogenic climate change.

your "degrees" are probably made up completely, because it's painfully obvious that you don't even understand very BASIC actual science...

What assumptions you use to make your mathematical system matters since you cannot prove a systems coherence with its own rules. What we call math is indeed socially constructed and this construct has changed its underlying assumptions many times over the development of modern mathematics

You should look into the massive debates around set theory if you think math is objectively defined. It was massively consequential to the field and shaped how we see math to this day.

Right hates intellectualism. Look at this temper tantrum racist whites are throwing about CRT. If they had any insight they would look around, see only other caucasians that think separate but equal is cool, and be like "shit, I'm a racist". It is literally only racist whites upset about CRT lol. It proves CRT.

i didnt do that, stop spreading lies or i will have to report you

thank you very much for your concern, but i understand the concept of absorption perfectly well, doesnt change the fact that all this is pure theory based on computer models

i hope you did your duty and made fearmongering posts on social media, because there were a few thunderstorms in the middle of summer #climatecrisis

nice try from mister political "science", sociology or gender studies, its not my fault that you are worthless

if anyone hates intellectualism its socialists/communists

guys like you are just useful idiots and when the system you want so much is established, you are the first to get lined up or get a one way gulag train ticket

Communists definitely hate it, they literally rewrite history. They will do things like use the state to register the political beliefs of teachers and other anti-intellectual and authoritarian measures.

I'm more libertarian than anything, i strongly believe people should be able to do what the hell they want and live with their consequences. I'm just against the GOP because I think the bill of rights applies to everyone and is not just perks for white guys.

Yeah, right... debates about the foundations of set theory are tooootally relevant to the curriculum of 9th grade students, who are trying to grasp basic matrix algebra or trigonometric functions and such.

Simply put, the assumptions you are referring to do not matter in the slightest for the practical appication of mathematics, which is all that 99.99% of students will ever need. And that includes even the majority of math majors. The tiny rest has ample time to delve into these debates during higher-level university courses. Likewise, the unequal outcomes in math education between students of different ethnicities or cultural backgrounds are rooted in many things, but the axioms of set theory or the choice between a binary, decimal or duodecimal numeral base are not among them.

At the end of the day, the mathematical fact that a circle's circumference is 3.141... times as big as its diameter, irrespective of the circle's radius, just isn't a social construct. Neither is the fact that a²+b² = c² holds for the sides of a right triangle. Or that integration and differentiation are inverse operations.
