Newsom's War on Reality

Nothing Gavin Newsom has done so far could've prepared us for this last week.

In elaborate taxpayer-funded events, he played a game-show host with a “Big Spin” lottery wheel, posed with minions and smurfs, rode a roller coaster, compared himself to Oprah for “giving away money,” and juggled liked an actual clown. Politico described the surreal scenes:

His appearances have gotten so over-the-top that longtime political reporters can hardly believe what they’re seeing. “Am I on drugs?” said San Francisco Chronicle reporter Alexei Koseff, marveling at Newsom celebrating with characters in costume.

It was a stunning escalation in Newsom’s war on reality – the conjuring of a world apart from the homelessness, trash, and decay endemic to modern California. Newsom even went so far as to declare that his lockdowns somehow helped the economy. Fact checkers are roasting him for this insane claim.

Meanwhile, he is ignoring our letter asking him to justify the State of Emergency; is rolling out a vaccine “verification” system as my passport ban still awaits a hearing; and is refusing to follow my example and decline his pay raise.

If our next Governor has a mission statement, it should be Back to Basics: do the things government is supposed to do, do them well, and do nothing else. Because our current Governor is promising exactly the opposite.

A new anti-Recall ad ends with the six most ominous words I’ve ever heard: “Governor Newsom is just getting started.”

Help me make sure he’s just about finished

Newsom's Catastrophic Deception

Sometimes, the dots connect themselves. Let’s start with today’s bombshell report that Gavin Newsom wildly misled the public about his fire prevention efforts:

"An investigation from CapRadio and NPR’s California Newsroom found the governor has misrepresented his accomplishments and even disinvested in wildfire prevention. Newsom overstated, by an astounding 690%, the number of acres treated with fuel breaks and prescribed burns."

It’s hard to say whether the deception or the dereliction is worse. But there’s more.

At the moment, Newsom is trying to pass a new law to let him control when the Recall happens. After months of delay, he suddenly wants the vote sooner. His main supporter in the Senate explained why, writing that “fires” in the late summer or early fall are among Newsom’s “biggest threats."

Returning to the NPR report, it's clear why he's so worried:

"Overall, California’s [wildfire] response has faltered under Newsom…fuel reduction output dropped by half in 2020, to levels below Gov. Jerry Brown’s final year in office. At the same time, Newsom slashed roughly $150 million from Cal Fire’s wildfire prevention budget."

It appears Newsom is well aware he hasn’t prepared the state for fire season, so he's trying to (1) deceive the public and (2) force a Recall vote before his deception is catastrophically exposed.

Our movement has a simple slogan: Recall Newsom. Save California.

The Healthy Children Resolution

This week the Legislature ordered everyone to wear masks at the Capitol indefinitely, even as Dr. Fauci himself testifies in Congress without one. I just wish this farce were our biggest problem.

The far more serious matter is our kids: California remains one of the only states with a school mask mandate, and there’s no sign of this changing for the Fall.

But parents are fighting back. I’ve written a letter in support of a Healthy Children Resolution that will be considered by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors this Tuesday. Here is a copy you can propose in your county.

In Florida, kids have been in classrooms with no mask requirement for a year. Peer-reviewed studies show there's no benefit. Simply put, our state is causing kids pain for no good reason. There’s a term for that.

Gavin Newsom knows this. When he finally lifted the general mask mandate, he tweeted “enjoy the fresh air” to the lucky adults who were now free to breathe without his interference.

But the suffocating uniformity of masking aligns perfectly with his education agenda: shutting down charter schools so families have no options; requiring critical race theory so students won’t think for themselves; cancelling advanced math.

And of course, spending more money: now $26,355 per pupil in LA. Meanwhile, California’s pre-COVID rankings – 46, 48, 47, and 47 in 4th and 8th grade math and reading – are certainly worse following the nation’s longest school shutdown.

After we get rid of masks and get rid of Newsom, our next step is fundamental education reform based on local control and school choice.

Help me fight Newsom’s corrupt agenda

The Banana Republic of California

Last night we got some crazy news. Newsom’s team messed up his paperwork so he won’t appear as a Democrat on the Recall ballot. He’s now suing his own Secretary of State to ignore the law and let him reclaim his cherished partisan label.

That capped off a surreal day at the Capitol. It started with California announcing a boycott of five states for supposed civil rights violations. Yet hours later, the Legislature itself violated international human rights standards by changing rules in the middle of an election.

Then, in the dead of night, Newsom made it official: by signing SB 152, he changed the timing of his own Recall in an attempt to suppress votes against him. It’s possibly the most corrupt act in California history.

As I blasted Newsom on the Assembly Floor, one legislator actually stood up to protest that I shouldn’t be allowed to criticize the Governor. This was too much for even the presiding Speaker, who dismissed him.

In the midst of all this, Newsom signed the biggest and worst state budget since our nation’s founding, totaling $263 billion. Below are excerpts from my speeches against the budget and the Recall bill. You can watch them here.

Recall: Every child knows the word for changing the rules in the middle of the game: it’s cheating. And every California voter should know: Gavin Newsom is cheating in the Recall, with this Legislature as his willing accomplice.

Budget: I, for one, don’t see my job as divvying up the spoils on a sinking ship. I believe that with new leadership California can once again start leading the nation in the right ways.

Help me remove the most corrupt Governor in California history

September 14

The election to remove Gavin Newsom as Governor of California has been set for September 14. That means you’ll get your ballot (whether you asked for one or not) in the mail in mid-August.

Gavin Newsom and his allies have tried every trick in the book to avoid this day of reckoning. But now we have our opportunity: our chance to turn the page on this era of corruption in California.

Today’s other news is that I’ve released my semi-annual fundraising report. It’s the first ever in modern California history that includes no Special Interest money. We also shattered the record for small-dollar donations. Thank you to everyone for helping to make this possible.

The grip of Special Interests on our State Capitol has given us politicians like Gavin Newsom who govern without regard to the public good. To reverse California’s decline, we need a new generation of citizen-backed public servants.

I’m so grateful to everyone for the tremendous encouragement about my own role in the Recall election. I’ll be making an announcement very soon.

I'm In

It's official. I’m running to replace Gavin Newsom as the Governor of California. Our new website is KileyForCalifornia.com.

I can’t tell you how much your encouragement has meant to me, and I'd be so grateful for your support. You can donate to my campaign for Governor here.

Over the next 70 days, I'll fight in every way I can to get our movement across the finish line. We’re in it to win.

While I don’t usually ask for contributions in the text of my posts, I confess this one is different. The first 24 hours of our campaign are the most important, so I humbly ask for whatever you can give.

With a strong initial showing, we can unify support. That will help prevent the field from fracturing and splitting the vote.

Together, we’ve built a new model of citizen-backed representation. Now we can prove it’s more powerful than Gavin Newsom’s Special Interest corruption.

Renewing the meaning of We the People: that's what the Recall has been about from the beginning. It's what our campaign will be about until the end. And it's what the mission of the Governor's Office will be every day that I serve.

Thank you so much. California is worth fighting for, and it’s the honor of a lifetime to be in the fight with you.

Support our campaign to replace Newsom

A Record-Breaking First Day

What a day.

In 24 hours, we received well over a quarter million dollars from over 2,500 individual donors. Nothing like this has ever been seen in our state. I can't tell you how grateful I am. (Here's the link again!)

Meanwhile, the Newsom campaign is already sending out unhinged press releases attacking me. As Jennifer Van Laar writes for RedState, “Newsom knows Kiley’s a threat.”

I’d love to see you at the big campaign kickoff rally we’re having at the State Capitol this Saturday from 10 to 11 AM. (Facebook event here). We’ll have some fantastic speakers, including James Gallagher.

We’re planning other rallies across the state for the next few weeks and are forming active teams of volunteers in every community. You can sign up to volunteer here.

These next 69 days could mean everything for California. Let’s make history.

Help continue our momentum

Newsom's "Free Lunch"

Gavin Newsom wants California’s gas tax to go up even more. “You can’t have a free lunch,” he explained

No, you can’t. But you also shouldn’t pay for filet mignon and get served dog food; you shouldn’t pay the highest taxes and drive over the deepest potholes. That’s the story of Gavin Newsom’s California: we sacrifice the most and get the least in return.

These next 67 days are our chance to show why: political corruption.

Yesterday, Newsom pocketed $5 million from the massive Special Interest behind AB 5, a law that destroyed the livelihoods of countless Californians. At tomorrow’s Campaign Kickoff Rally, we’ll hear from one victim of that law, as well as victims of Newsom’s lockdowns and school closures.

In other news, I’m honored to have received a rare endorsement from RedState:

Although he currently represents the 6th district, he has become known as “California’s Assemblyman.” We at RedState believe that Assemblyman Kiley has the right experience, attitude and vigor to lead this state to better times for all Californians, regardless of party or ideology.

We’re soon announcing our total grassroots supporters for Week 1. You can donate here.
