Same story different day.

Reps want the checks.
Dems want the checks and a ton of BS added on.

I don't care who wins. Just want Congress in general to get off their asses and get it done.

Reps want smaller checks and for less people. Your description of the Democrats is accurate. Do you prefer for the Democrats to just steamroll the GOP (which they can) or do you prefer that they take a bit more time to try and get a deal that's somewhere in the middle?

You ask that like you think the Dems would even consider NOT steam rolling the GOP. LOL

Dems virtually never play hardball with the GOP. Even when they had almost 60 senators they only passed a watered down version of a Republican authored healthcare plan.

They are trying to compromise on the wrong things.

How difficult is it to pass a stand alone bill for the checks? Forget discussion on whether checks should happen in the first place, let's just start from the assumption that an additional $1400 is warranted. Great! We've agreed. So what's so difficult about a bill that is for the exact figure needed for the number of checks they already know they'll have to write/deposit, and call it good at that?

Further relief can be handled separately. Businesses need help? They get a bill too. Landlords need help? They get a bill too.

I think the problem here is that you're attempting to indicate that any form of omnibus is a "compromise". No, once you agree to any form of omnibus at all, you've lost the right to claim anything but a solid loss (or win, if it's you who authored the omnibus).

Unfortunately I doubt Republicans would go for a single stand alone bill.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love if Democrats just put up a $2k or $1400 check bill and let the Republicans slap it down, and then went on all the media outlets telling the American people exactly that, (Democrats are pussies so they won't) but Republicans would slap it down.

Nothing would get done that way because there would be even more negotiation and even more parliamentary procedure. Omnibus bills are an effective way to guarantee votes.

I believe you're wrong, Republicans would almost certainly go for a standalone "check bill". The problem is pointed out here:

Dems are worried about the other stuff. Republicans are digging their heels over excess.

There is no middle ground as long as you must rely on an omnibus to get it done. This is why the $600 payout had to wait for the appropriations bill to come along. 8 months to get $600. My guess is, it'll be until next January for the next IF it happens at all.
