Drinking this tonight, probably my favorite rye whisky and also one of my favorite distillers overall out of Kentucky. If you ever see any of their products you should try it.

For the longest time, I was big on dark roasted strong coffee that I would then dump copious amounts of creams and sugars into. Well one morning a couple years ago while hunting, a buddy and I went into town for supplies and we stopped for breakfast at this hipster café. They were serving coffee that's roasted by a local there that's not only smooth and tasted phenomenal without anything being added to it, it's easy on the stomach. It seems that my dark coffees were exasperating my acid reflux, but this stuff I can drink several cups a day (which I do regularly) and not aggravate the reflux. I've been drinking it exclusively ever since.

Just got to match the food to the context, and never open a bar tab.

Germany/Austria - Get the seasonal beer such as hefeweizen and match with a Schnitzel.

Japan - There convenience food is top-notch. Rice balls are wrapped in such a way that the moist filling doesn't touch the rice until you open the package. Package Engineers must be paid well. Best would be to do a food tour and dine at a fish-monger place. Crab brains and Saki mmmhmmm. Gyoza bar with cheap dry beer is nice too. Mixed Hoppy drinks were fun too.

Italy - Anywhere with homemade pasta kicks ass. caprese salad, cheap wine. The local citrus fruit on the coast is something else though. 1000x better than US store bought shit.

Netherlands - Seek out magic truffles, don't waste your $$ on space cakes. I ate 5 and had no effects.

Finally back to appreciating bourbon again. Been loving this bottle ever since I first tried it:

In addition to this I tried Old Pulteny, the 12 year old, which was good, little on the sweeter side and reminded me of the Oban 14 I've had. Don't think I'd order it again unless it was cheap though.

My thyme is finally abundant enough that I can take sprigs off. 1 sprig of home grown thyme is more flavorful than a full pack you get from Walmart. My gosh that's good.

Also just got done seasoning a cast iron dutch oven my grandma in law gave us. It was all rusted out so I took everything off with a wire brush and re-seasoned it. My house is like pure smoke because of the drippings lol. Gonna make hash browns in it this weekend.

Never considered growing my own herbs. Where do you live? You have good soil where you’re at?

Might experiment myself with some mint and make a mint julep lol

I live in Missouri. Soil is good, but all of my herbs are indoors on my kitchen table. You can grow your own herbs pretty easily in some small pots with a ~$50 grow light. They taste easily 10x better than what you get at Walmart. One small sprig of rosemary from my window plant is way more flavorful than the entire pack I get from walmart.

Currently got thyme, cilantro, sage, and mint. Had rosemary but I picked it to death while cooking lol. I need to replant. Also need to get a basil plant. I just haven't had any luck with basil seeds so I just need to maintain an already grown one from a nursery this summer.
