When you dont play by the rules you lose the expectation that others will respect the rules.

The agreement is "if you do this I will do that" not "I will do this regardless of what you do"

Every time democrats push the envelope and play 'unfair', it blows up in their faces.
Its consistently been democrats rationalizing to themselves why they need to take the next aggressive step, only for it to backfire as republicans not only act in kind but capitalize on it more effectively.

Democrats didn't start the thing were talking about, it was explicitly started 4 years ago. Democrats using that against Republicans isn't hypocritical because you lose the expectation that the other side will play fair when you punch first.
