The similarities are indeed striking. Two key differences though: 1.: Nixon was a lot more shrewd than Trump, didnt shoot himself in the foot all the time. 2.: the country was 80+% non-hispanic white back then, now its sub-60%. Protests against racial inequality have much more vigor when the group of potentially affected people is twice or even three times as large.

no, they wouldnt. there sure would be some trump supporters backing it (say the Ghot types), but many others wouldnt.

in fact, a lot of Trump supporters around the country and also here on PaRD have admitted that something is broken with the American police, and that some kind of reform is necessary (even though they of course arent willing to go quite as far as the protesters or progressives).

I think an example of conservatives/right wingers doing something like this was the Bundy's, who a lot of us on the Left supported in their struggle against the federal government. They were not white supremacist though and were more libertarian than anything. God bless Cliven Bundy.
