i'm not sure how to run the numbers to compare this to the anal transmission stats.

"Among 429 participants with known Gc/Ct exposure, consistent condom use was associated with a significant reduction in prevalent gonorrhea and chlamydia (30% vs. 43%; adjusted prevalence odds ratio = 0.42, 95% confidence interval: 0.18, 0.99). Among 4,314 participants with unknown Gc/Ct exposure, consistent condom use was associated with a lower reduction in prevalent gonorrhea and chlamydia (24% vs. 25%; adjusted prevalence odds ratio = 0.82, 95% confidence interval: 0.66, 1.01)."

i've always been under the impression that condoms aren't good enough for anal, if the transmission rates are similar to vaginal then i could change my position

Condoms are generally fine for anal, but user error is higher when having anal sex as compared to vaginal sex because the anus isn't self-lubricating, and so people tend to not use enough lube.

Porn has ruined people's perception of sex, and too many people think you can just spit on your dick and go HAM.

i agree user error is higher but the "condoms are generally fine for anal" isn't a claim that even condom manufacturers make

the number of people male and female who have been on the receiving end of some idiot who "learned about anal" from porn must be massive. there is literally nothing realistic about anal porn, and yet its where most young lads "learn" about it.

i remember some study somewhere of men asked at age 16 or so if they'd prefer to have anal vs vaginal sex with a woman, then the same asked of 30 or so year old men. the dropoff of anal was astounding.

Condom manufacturers historically haven't been able to market condoms as effective for anal sex because the FDA hadn't approved condoms for anal sex. As a result, manufacturers aren't legally allowed to market them in a way that includes anal sex. Use of condoms for anal sex is considered "off-label".

That isn't because they're necessarily less effective, but to snipa's point, there's liability due to the increased user error. Even then, they need FDA approved to change their marketing.

The only condom approved for anal sex by the FDA is the FC2 Internal Condom.
