I make overarching decisions based on morals. if i had the moral stand that laws should prevent people from financially "taking advantage" of the poor in the context you're using it in, i'd be against soda, cigarettes, check into cash, etc.

I actually believe that cash checking places should be banned, or at least heavily restricted in their profit margins. but that's because i feel the abuse is far worse in that industry than people who own rental properties.

generally my crux with your stand is that you stated openly no one should be allowed to own 2 family homes. 2? you're all the way down to 2? that's just a part time job, not some serious case of abuse. if it's 10? 20? or even 5 houses? i get that. that landlord isnt maintaining shit right im sure. but 2?

i lived in a duplex where the owner lived next door. he just wanted to control who his neighbors were and make a small amount of money as a side job. but that guy is evil?

there we agree entirely.

Let go of the 2 home limit I obviously quickly typed before I thought we would get this far into it.

I think you know what my belief really is. I'm all for wealthy folks flipping high end properties and gouging each other for profit. I'm specifically against people buying up and profiting off low and possibly even some middle range property.

It may be anecdotal, but the average price of a detached home in my area has gone up more than 100% in under 10 years. Our middle class salaries have hardly increased by 10%. Lower class income has increased even less than that.

What we're seeing happen is people buying up everything and raising the costs exponentially. Something has to give.

There are far too many men and women working their hands to then bone to pay for someone else's property and possibly even their income. It's plain wrong.

i am curious where you live, that does sound like a very predatory housing market. and in cases like that, in america, id be find with states or municipalities making rules, i just dont want federal law driven by coastal problems here in the midwest. where its not an issue outside of Milwaukee, Chicago, St Louis, etc.

i can trust duff to post a topic that leads to the usual suspects here and some passerbys spewing the usual anti-liberty, “all people except me are evil” self-righteous bullshit

here we’ve seen:

people who provide rental opportunities provide no value
there needs to be a cap of ten nah fuck it, two homes anyone can own
it is immoral to own homes
problems in a few coastal cities require federal government intervention
ownership should be banned
capitalism is evil
blah blah some nonsense personal anecdotes thrown in

same old story

^ This is the status quo in the cities and college towns. As a tennant, I've had my best experience renting directly from the land owner vs management company. As a land lord, it kicks butt to help out your tenants and fix things. Management companies are a scam though, and their short list of 'contractor' friends who can fix anything at 3x market quote.

You guys are taking things too literally. Some of us are just quickly typing a few sentences in between work breaks or while on the shitter and you're expecting us to have all the answers.

I know a lot more people who work very hard, don't waste their money and do not fund addictions but they can't begin to think about owning even a low end home.

House flippers and property land lords have grossly inflated the pricing. You maybe don't care about the guy beside you struggling to get by but I do.

People making their income off these types of situations don't give a shit, they just want easy money.

I make $20,000 above the national average yet I could barely afford a house that cost 1/3 the average price of a home here. That's fucked.
