do i trust a general doctor to diagnose a cold and suggest cold medicine? yes.

do i trust a psychiatrist to diagnose a mental condition and prescribe the right pills? certainly not categorically, in some cases yes.

Why would you trust psychiatrists less? The criteria for prescribing pills are analogous.
