In genesis of the 11th chapter of the Hebrew bible it describes the Jews undertaking to raise up a
shem. This very clear and concise language, has been agreed upon by every generation of written scholars to mean an undertaking to make a name for themselves that persists through the fall of the tower of babel.
Jewish people need to name the event after themselves because they needed the event to manifest their destiny.
