He is speaking in terms of origin in reference to nothing.

Empty space has energy/mass. So it isn't really nothing.

My point is, space isn't empty. It's technically incorrect to call it empty.

It has a temperature above 0K, which would be enough of a hint for any physics layman.

Well yeah, I think that's the point he was trying to make, the "empty" part was just a minor mistake.
