Having access to gunpowder and having access to the methods of putting together material to make that gunpowder into an effective weapon are two very different things. Technology's about more than having the material, alas.

Europeans went through a gun-building frenzy internally right before the whole colonization thing started up.

They did have guns of sorts. I just don`t know how good they were compared to european ones(probably crappy) They had cannons and what not.

Colonialism and the slave trade stopped Africa from advancement and is one of the main reasons the continent is in the shape it is today. Had it never happened, I doubt we would be hearing about the starving masses in Africa.

The Europeans created a law banning gun companies from trading or selling machine guns to Africa after their invention. So, the Africans were left with muskets and the Europeans came in with the Gatling guns and started the Colonial period.
