The origins of this conflict are also quite unambiguous. Word for word transcripts of Gorbachev (1990) and Yeltsin discussions (1991-2000) about NATO are available and declassified. Whoever replaces Putin (2030+?) will faces the same dilemma unless NATO can prove it is not a threat to Russians (after bombing countries for the fuck of it illegally for more than 3 decades and messing in their affairs through USAID / NED and US Agency for Global Media). Because of the incredible amount of nuclear warheads and delivery methods accumulated by Russia - the only way NATO / US can fight Russia right now is through relentless propaganda / brainwashing and proxies like Ukraine / ISIS. We see many successful examples of that propaganda warfare here in PARD. People succumbing to the most ridiculous dehumanizing tropes and repeating them as verbatim.

Hearing some red hot takes elsewhere about Russia's nuclear arsenal being unreliable, not working at all, or not existing at all, and this being a pretext for continuing to push the red lines. What a foolish conceit.

Say what you will about Russia's willingness to use these weapons, and there is probably some truth to technical deficits in their military operations, but the risk calculation there is unacceptable. If just 10% of their stated arsenal works properly, and their delivery systems are reliable, the consequences are extremely outsized. It is probably nearly impossible for them to strike America directly, but imagine the consequences of a nuclear weapon, just one, actually detonating over Western Europe, Japan, or any other forward areas hostile to Russia. Warsaw, Berlin, London, etc, nuked. This planet would be changed in a big way, forever.

Russia lowered the threshhold for the use of nuclear weapons. They also started the production and upgrade of soviet era nuclear fallout shelters.
