if nothing else, this statement alone is reason enough for Congress to impose new judicial ethics rules on SC justices

More like Congress needs to impose ethics rules on itself.
Alito is correct in his statement.

Quote
"I know this is a controversial view, but I'm willing to say it," Alito said in the interview published in the Journal's opinion section. "No provision in the Constitution gives them the authority to regulate the Supreme Court — period."

Alito's view was shared by some Senate Republicans who last week cited the U.S. Constitution's division of powers among the government's executive, legislative and judicial branches in opposing the ethics-reform measure.

If congress is allowed to regulate, control, etc., then we might as well just get rid of the SC.
The balance of power in our govt. is the ONLY thing that makes it work. Take that away or wear it away... then we might as well just give up.

Thank god we have a Democrat in the White House who would never engage in "pay to play" to enrich his family.

The "serious" conservative reaction to this by playing whataboutism with Sotomayor's book deal or engaging in tribalism is disappointing. This behavior by Clarence Thomas is ridiculous.

Let's call it "reparations" for the all racist discrimination he suffered throughout his life. ^_^
