Been taking a little hiatus from d2jsp, just wanted to chime in real quick:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-06-30/us-will-face-high-gas-prices-as-long-as-it-takes-biden-says

Quote
US President Joe Biden said Americans will have to stomach high gas prices “as long as it takes” to beat back Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine
[...]
Biden’s latest comments about inflation -- which amount to telling voters that they need to brace themselves for the long haul -- are unlikely to play well.

So it seems like this is the pitch Biden and his admin have settled on when it comes to inflation: "we have a moral obligation to endure higher prices in the name of a war on the other side of the planet". What a thoroughly foolish and stupid argument. It is misguided on the substance and tone-deaf politically. If anything, continuing support for "the liberal world order" hinges on bringing down inflation and preserving the living standard of the masses, not the other way round. If this is how Biden wants to head into the midterms, it's gonna be a bloodbath and no amount of outrage over Roe or concealed carry or WV v. EPA will save them.

To quote what I already wrote back in May:
Quote (Black XistenZ @ 17 May 2022 05:30)
The last time a president argued that there's "nothing I can do about inflation and the struggling economy" and that the people might just have to "do with less", it led to a landslide loss and handed the other party the sovereignty on economic policy for 28 straight years. (On economic issues, president Clinton seamlessly continued the policies of Reagan/Bush Sr.)

meanwhile in reality:

it's republicans who want high gas prices for political reasons. obviously right wingers are too stupid to realise that (not that they actually cared about the issue in the first place, most of them are committed through tribalism and racism anyway, literally regardless of what republicans do politically), so this won't hurt them. still important to point it out whenever some lazy hacks pretend this is about policy, lol.

I am 110% certain the “price gouging bill” has very little to do with price gouging, and a to do with baiting the republicans to vote against something titled “price gouging bill”. First day following politics?

perhaps you should read it then. also this was a house bill, not a senate bill, and therefore wouldnt be a pork barrel.

I just read it. This bill basically allows the president to declare an emergency, or “proclamation of international crisis” if any gas company sells gas at an “unconscionably excessive” price which “takes advantage” of the consumer. More specifically looks like “excessive” is in relation to the relative area. This bill seems to do nothing more than allow the president to say “emergency”.

Power grab for the president voted no by all republicans and 4 democrats.

Strange how quickly you went from "i am 110% sure it has nothing to do with price gauging" to "its a power grab for the president to declare emergencies only in the authority of gas prices during said emergencies".

sounds like you were 110% wrong. im not for expansion of the executive branch either, i just feel dumb when i'm wrong on basic facts tho.
