Republicans lost the House of Representatives, something they have owned for a very long time and something that was inconceivable to lose just a few months ago.

I honestly never thought I would see a Democrat owned House of Representatives again.

The worse part is Mike Dewine, who will run Ohio into the ground probably with austerity and probably ignore the epidemic as a function of small government. We will see if he works out, but he is a bad person and I have low expectations. Might be time to leave Ohio for a bluer state.

There are a lot of poor Republicans here in Ohio who I am paying three generations of disability and health insurance for because nobody ever taught them how to take care of themselves.

Oh my, but it's amusing to watch those from the teeny countries, get their hopes up.

The house can make trump's life rough, but they can't do anything really, w/o the Senate, which the Republicans still control. :D

? pathetic. who cares about losing seats when you lose a majority?

I'm not saying that tonight's house result was good for the republicans. It was not. But it wasnt an outright disaster, as some predicted. Keep in mind that quite some pundits considered 50+ Democratic pickups very well possible.
In the end, the results will fall about in the middle of the range of predictions. And those predictions were that the GOP's chances of holding the House were slim to begin with.

So from the point of view of the republicans, the expected and bad, but not disastrous, result in the House is competing with a better than expected result in the Senate and a mixed bag in gubernatorial races.

And as I said: in case of a split congress, having a solid majority in the senate is very valuable for Trump.

A republican controlled senate used to be inconceivable as well. Times are changing.

Somebody doesn't understand the separation of powers :)

We get to control what laws get to the president now. That is real. So much of the Trump platform is a nonstarter now.

what are you even talking about?

the House has only been republican for 8 years, while it had been controlled by the Democrats (with two very very brief interruptions) from 1932 to 1994 and was swingy since then.

and even a few months ago, holding the house looked like an uphill battle for the GOP, not "inconceivable to lose".

Your interest, even glee in this, is pretty strange. You'd think that these teeny countrie's ages would put them above this sort of behavior. :/

You can't control anything w/o the Senate. Laws can be drawn up in either chamber, both have to vote FOR the laws. Trump still has EO's and the courts to back his EO's.

Not exactly. Cabinet/justice confirmations, treaties, and impeachment trials are all exclusive powers of the senate. The senate is also the only way to contest Trump's tariffs.
