And why do you think that?

because the simple equation of mass/height^2 will not accurately determine your body fat

It's simple yet effective when taken over the population. There are outliers of course but they are not prevalent like you seem to believe. On average people are sedentary so their bmi will be a fair gauge to use.

Jill Andrew is a body image advocate, founder of Ontario's Body Confidence Canada Awards, and one of the people behind the plus-size fashion blog Fat in the City.

She's on a campaign to convince Ontario politicians to amend the Human Rights Code, to include discrimination against people who have large or small bodies. Jill identifies as "fat" and says she's faced discrimination while applying for jobs, and hears the same from others.

We know that size discrimination, particularly fat discrimination, is a real thing. It's a definite real thing.

Jill says discrimination appears in the usual places, such as employment and housing. She also says there's one unexpected source, medical professionals. She says "fat" people receive discriminatory treatment from doctors.

I've done interviews with people who identify as fat, as obese, as plus sized, as big boned... and across the board, there were conversations about feeling terrible to go into their doctor's office. They'd go in with a cold and be told to lose weight.

Absurd. Of course a doctor would address obvious health issues. I guess they just want the dr to ignore the elephant in the room?

It should be illegal to discriminate based on weight...with the assumption the person is actively seeking treatment for a health issue.

Being obese is most definitely a harmful health condition. I don't think a place to live should deny a person can live there if that person were suffering from arthritis. Or paralyzed. Or bipolar. That would be absurd.

So why wouldn't it be discrimination for obesity?

However, there's also complete denial of medical treatment. Doctors want to have you lose weight so you don't develop diabetes or heart disease. Or answer some underlying mental illness or eating disorder.

I'm rambling at this point. It would just be nice to have a little column A and a little column B.

based on this graph you could say people from America are fucking jacked with a low body fat like Arnold Schwarzenegger who had a BMI of 31 in his prime. Use better data.

my data is good, your posts are miserable

Your body fat? You're right. Bmi isn't a good metric to use for some individuals. However it's accurate when taken across a population because lean individuals with high muscle aren't very prevalent. We can say with near 100% certainty that a population with a bmi of 31 has a higher percentage body fat than a population with a bmi of 25.

Yeah true but I don't think it's that unusual to be lean. I'm a bit more muscley than the average guy and quite thin - my bmi is like 24. I'd say quite a lot of the population would be in my position
