Nothing if you like your clergymen wealthy with an incentive to compete for higher salaries.
I mean in essence as a catholic pastor you live in the churches paid off home, have access to some other goods you don't need to pay for, etc. But i came from a poor ass town, and this pastor would rather drive fancy cars than help local charities like the food bank. On top of that they guy was notorious for finding reasons he couldn't transfer to another church, so much so that after 15 years they just decided to let him stay forever. Basically so he could keep his cars and not leave his lifestyle up to chance.
I met the guy a few times, he was nice enough, but he always struck me as a pastor who was not entirely committed. If im being honest the only entirely committed clergymen i've met were in sects that allowed marriage. I've never understood how the vow of celibacy makes for a better man/woman of god. I've found the opposite to be true.
My old great grandfather was the historical family drunkard, but had a memorable moment when one pastor went on at great length in a sermon about how they required donations of so many game animals and of what kinds for an upcoming priests' shindig, they needed so many chickens for the feast and whatnot, at which point he stood up in the middle of the church and shouted "
We came here to hear the word of god not your bullshit!" and stormed out. Not quite nailing 95 feces to the door.
