Oh come on, that's ridiculous. Trump didnt respond to covid in subdued fashion because he intellectually grasped the issue and the big-big-picture around it - he was simply burying his head in the sand because he didnt want to acknowledge that the pandemic was throwing a curveball at his reelection campaign and required him to make tough decisions. He could have stuck with his general approach (prioritizing keeping the country open as much as possible over minimizing deaths or infection numbers) and still handled it far far better.
