There were no federal laws when the Constitution was ratified. Until its ratification, there was no federal government. To claim that the president broke no laws covered by the impeachment clause is ludicrous and, intentionally disingenuous.
The reason that the term "misdemeanors" is one of the potential charges listed in the clause, was that the framers wanted future generations to understand that the Congress would have the ability to determine those actions that would warrant removal without being hamstrung by lawyers mincing words and definitions.

Genuine question: is the "high crimes and misdemeanors"-clause in the constitution to be understood as "high crimes or high misdemeanors are impeachable", or in the sense of "high crimes or conventional misdemeanors qualify for impeachment"?

Serious response-- I didn't write that, but my interpretation would be that Congress would have the ability to determine on those actions. That there was no definitive answer of what was or was not impeachable.

GOP complaining about these issues..
But a GOP member is now saying you can Impeach a President based on actions taken PRIOR to being a pres.
The GOP is full of jokers

“I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened,” Ernst said in an interview. “Joe Biden should be very careful what he’s asking for because, you know, we can have a situation where if it should ever be President Biden, that immediately, people, right the day after he would be elected would be saying, ‘Well, we’re going to impeach him.’”

The grounds for impeachment, the first-term Republican said, would be “for being assigned to take on Ukrainian corruption yet turning a blind eye to Burisma because his son was on the board making over a million dollars a year.”

Bill Clinton got caught lying to congress, a crime of perjury. Donald Trump didn't get caught, no matter how many lines the Democrats cast.
It sort of went;

  • Nixon: High Crimes and Misdemeanors
  • Clinton: High Crimes and Misdemeanors
  • Trump: High Crimes and Misdemeanors

First post in many many months.

First, I feel like this entire impeachment has shown our people of the United States and the rest of the world how much of a joke our system is.

I am embarrassed to watch our country waste our time and money over such insignificant subject matter that it substantially impedes actual progress. Month after month it’s a new problem, with a new headline that is absolutely just trash click bait.

Trump is a problem because he has poor presidential acumen when it comes to his social behavior. I feel that there are too many uneducated self righteous critics that neglect to see one of trumps biggest goals as a president was to change the financial future of our country. China has really taken advantage of our relaxed trade allowing them to profit so heavily, they own over 25% of the country’s debt. They’ve become the largest overseas real estate holder too.

It was time for a big change. This Ukraine noise is simply that. It’s noise. Anyone watching and listening to what the media wants you to, will already see how much corruption are on both sides of our politics. The investigation into Hunter Biden is clearly something that would be ethical to do. Anyone who is not biased to one party would agree.

Anyways, I’m not for or against Trump. I’m a moderate who is tired of seeing this political show on our tax dollar.

Except that using presidential power to investigate a future opponent in elections is something that would equal to instant resign in almost all developed countries, so this impeachment procedure was much more justified than some semen stain on a blue dress.
If you have an issue with deficit Trump or any populist is not something you should be neutral with.

Clinton was a god damn criminal for getting his dick sucked and it was in no way a gross violation of bro code to ask him under oath in front of his wife.

Trump would never disrespect his marriage to that mail order lady, he's a good boy didn't do nuffin.
