It's pure political theater. I don't think anyone realistically expects the impeachment trial to go anywhere. Perhaps it will, simply because Trump's so hated by so many people. But if you have any faith in the legal system whatsoever, OR our representatives, yeah, it's just a show trial. Something for the Dems to show how powerful they are, and it's all good.

They prove their power, time is wasted, the media gets some ratings, everyone wins. Trump loses nothing and suffers no ill result. Aka theater. I've been wrong before (a lot recently), but I don't believe this is something to be taken seriously.
