Nice article which touches upon a lot of my arguments regarding the future of the GOP and Trump:
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-gop-might-still-be-trumps-party-but-that-doesnt-mean-theres-room-for-him/

which is why he’s better served, if he wants, to play kingmaker from afar. he’d he silly to get deeply involved again unless the winds just dramatically shift over the next 4 years

So apparently the Nebraska GOP is going to censure Sasse for condemning Trump's election lies and incitement of an insurrection.

Sasse's response is worth watching:

Some noteworthy lines:

“If that president were a Democrat, we both know how you’d respond. But, because he had ‘Republican’ behind his name, you’re defending him.”

"You are welcome to censure me again, but let's be clear about why this is happening: It's because I still believe, as you used to, that politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude."

He makes a few good points, but he's massively disingenuous when he harps on about how he overperformed Trump in the 2020 election and won NE-02 with ease. His Democratic opponent was consumed by a sex and racism scandal and disavowed by the Nebraska Democratic Party, who instead threw its support behind a write-in candidate.

Also, why does he sound like camp leader of the Boy Scouts talking to adolescent brats?

Why would a politician who overperformed the moronic leader who lost the election, but still merits the cultish following of so many in his party, try to downplay that fact?

The answer to the last line is kind of obvious.

Sasse was indirectly arguing that Trump's underperformance compared to himself is indicative of Trump's electoral toxicity in Nebraska. He directly connected this alleged toxicity of Trump to his urge that the Republican party "must change".
In reality, Sasse's margin of victory was inflated by the scandal of his opponent who was disavowed by his own party, and therefore should not be used as evidence for or against Trump.

If we look at the US as a whole, there is a roughly equal number of states where Trump over- or underperformed downballot Republicans. The murky reality is that Trump's style is toxic with some parts of the electorate, but a big winner with other segments. Whether Trumpism is a net benefit electorally depends on the makeup of the specific state.

Sasse's line of reasoning was disingenuous in this regard, plain and simple.

Trump loses access to classified documents but that makes sense when they're trying to impeach him

Sasse lashes out at President Trump and his supporters just like McCain did, but not once when he was in charge of the Congressional tutoring program and afterwards did Sasse say anything negative about Dennis Hastert.

Hastert is the kind of warmongering swamp demon disgusting GOP that icemage wants back because he/she felt most at home during that GOP era. Sasse is a pretend grown man calling people dudes in a so-called professional setting. It really is a sickness.

A major feature story about the election from Time magazine, the whole article is a good read:

This is the inside story of the conspiracy to save the 2020 election, based on access to the group’s inner workings, never-before-seen documents and interviews with dozens of those involved from across the political spectrum. It is the story of an unprecedented, creative and determined campaign whose success also reveals how close the nation came to disaster. “Every attempt to interfere with the proper outcome of the election was defeated,” says Ian Bassin, co-founder of Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan rule-of-law advocacy group. “But it’s massively important for the country to understand that it didn’t happen accidentally. The system didn’t work magically. Democracy is not self-executing.”

That’s why the participants want the secret history of the 2020 election told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream–a well-funded cabal of powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information. They were not rigging the election; they were fortifying it.

Time said the quiet part out loud. And they're being cheered for it.

It's creepy that Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube have been censoring people for saying many of the same things as are directly stated in the article as "Fake News" and "Misinformation".

Shaking my head about this article. Unless they're trying to get ahead of something, I see no good reason for publishing this. They're merely giving meat to Q types.
