Israel cannot possibly defeat Egypt on Egyptian soil beyond the Suez Canal. Egypt has 12 times the population and a well-equipped military of its own. They also have non-neglibible industrial capacities. And as we know from history (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_Attrition and also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Badr_(1973) ), Israel also cannot hold the Sinai peninsula in the long run.

According to Palestinian sources (which have a vested interest in inflating the numbers), there have been roughly 23k Palestinian casualties of this war. And the war has already been going on for 3 months. At this rate, and given a population of roughly 2m people in Gaza, it would take Israel over 21 years to kill off Gaza's current population. In reality, this rate of killing barely offsets the explosive population growth of Gaza, if even that.

If Isreal's leaders were truly seeking to destroy a substantial portion of Gaza's population, they're doing it completely wrong. The only logical conclusion is that Bibi and gang are either incompetent beyond imagination, or not actually seeking to destroy a substantial portion of Gaza's population.
