In the meantime, I'll enjoy my not-too-shabby-either income, my 30 days of paid vacation per year, my work-life balance and my affordable healthcare. I'm well aware of the fact that the U.S. is a better place to be while things are going great for oneself and one's family - but when things don't go according to plan, people tend to fall far deeper and quicker in the U.S. than here is commie Europe. :bouncy:

This person has a point.

I think that US is a great place for the "high-achievers", people who are really smart, and capable. However, a lot of people aren't like that (and there is nothing wrong with it). For these people who are not as good at achieving, then living in a place like Western Europe or Canada is better, as these places tend to take better care of the more vulnerable populations.

I haven't really given it much though. It was a general term for people who are really smart and capable of success.

You want me to put hard numbers on it? Gee, I really can't. But I can give you something from real life as an example. My high school acquaintance, S, was a really smart person. In fact, she was an engineer. She went to the US for her career, leaving Canada and all this socialized healthcare behind, because with her high-paying job in the States, she could afford to not have a social safety net like that. Whereas compared to me, who stayed behind, mainly because I do not have similar career prospects as S, and I also cannot move to any place that does not offer socialized healthcare. If I moved to the States, I would literally not be able to afford getting sick.

Oh ok I understood.
I am at a worst place. Housing is ridiculously high, cant really afford even with my pay, just renting now.

It's like that here too. Owning a house in certain neighborhoods is simply out of reach for many people, especially younger people who are starting out.
