The Conway family is messed up across the board. The father is the most normal, but even he has clearly failed in his life choices. Almost as messed up as Hunter Biden messing around with his naked niece.

The media abused its position, lost credibility (media credibility is at all time lows), and as a consequence people turned to a host of other sources, many of which are simply not credible.

At the same time, it's hard to blame organizations like the NYT exclusively, as their movement from news to advocacy is in their economic interests. It simply doesn't pay to report facts, hence the need for the 1619 project and other pieces of ideological drivel which the NYTimes stands resolutely behind despite widespread panning by professional historians.

The security detail makes sense. Presidents are entitled to a security detail after they leave office not out of veneration but because they know a lot of dangerous things, info which is crucial for national security. Even a disgraced and impeached ex-president would be a gigantic danger if he was kidnapped by a hostile foreign power. And it's not like Trump would withstand torture or even basic questioning.
