Except Romney's comment wasn't anywhere close to true. The 47% do pay taxes, just not federal income tax, and lower income white people who take the majority of welfare benefits tend to vote Republican, not Democrat.
The welfare queen voting Democrat is a super-racist stereotype he was feeding into with that comment.
So no, it's not the same, again you fall for obvious dog-whistles because you go out of your way to give the right wing the benefit of the doubt.
You're deliberately deflecting from the essence of Romney's argument. Yes, everyone will pay taxes when he tanks up his car or buys a pack of chewing gums - but these types of taxes do not make you a net tax payer, which is what this argument really comes down to. The group of people who pay no income tax is almost entirely contained within the group of people who receive more in government services and benefits than they pay in taxes, i.e. net transfer recipients. And this group obviously has no economic self-interest in reducing taxes and government redistribution.
Likewise, it's an incredibly dishonest argument to say that "the majority of welfare benefits go to lower income white people" - yeah, no shit, whites still are by far the largest ethnic group in the country, so in raw numbers, the majority of welfare recipients will be white. What's relevant here, however, is clearly the
rate of dependency on government benefits/assistance, and this rate is higher among blacks and latinos, who are both a Dem-leaning demographic.
