I really don't understand how somebody can let obesity "creep" up

[I understand getting up to 250 and being husky]

250lb/6ft is obese though.

So it "creeps up" easier than you would expect, especially since it's so normalized people don't realize even 221lb at 6ft is obese.

If you are using an accurate measurement bodyfat% should determine obesity, not simply BMI. You could be 221lbs at 6ft but be sub 30% bodyfat and not be obese.

Right, but also you can be under 221lb at 6ft and still be obese due to high body fat to muscle ratio. The point is just that obesity is normalized to the point where 250lb/6ft is considered just "husky", and 'obesity' as a term is distanced from its actual medical definition and commonly thought of more as what is superobesity.

I feel the same. I'm 6 foot and 220 lb. When I get above 240 I start feeling like a pig and just start eating less until I get back down to 220. I really don't understand how somebody can let obesity "creep" or whatever until they are 400lb. I mean, sure, get up to 250 and being husky, but how the fuck do you let yourself get ham-planet sized?

if you are 6 ft and 220 lbs you are very overweight, bordering on obese.

I indicated I was referring to becoming a ham planet. It also depends on your build, I have a large build, not obese.

You're familiar with empiricism, so you know how to settle this for good...

He's about 15 1/2 stone... That's not obese for a well built 6 foot dude.

I think you'd know if you're so jacked that your bodyfat is sitting at 20% even though you're sitting at 220-240 pounds.

BMI is a weight approximation that does not take lean body mass or muscle into account.
Even then the golden rule is that you're always carrying more fat than you think you are.
