This is how most of our conversations go. I say something that's just plainly true and he gets all triggered

moderate voices in both israel and palestine coming to the table and negotiating a path to a free and independent palestine.

last time that happened, jewish hardliners (netanyahu and his likud party) opposed that process, and a jewish ultra-nationalist eventually assassinated the moderate israeli prime minister, preventing a meaningful peace process.

of course that won't happen under a netanyahu government ever, or under any israeli government for that matter directly after a horrific terror attack like the recent one, but it's the only way that will bring lasting peace - except an outright genocide of either party (something only israel has the means to do).

i have nothing against jewish people and i hope they have a bright and peaceful future in israel.

the only problem i have is with israel's right wing government's apartheid policies and its oppression of millions of innocent people.

how do you all (radical islamophobes as well as anti-semites) struggle to make that distinction?!

that's too general of a statement. conservative israelis, the netanyahu-supporting part of the population don't want palestinians to have their own state or equal rights. they rather suffer the occasional terror attack if it means being "justified" to "retaliate" by killing ten or twenty times as many innocent palestinians - as long as they don't have to give up the illegally occupied territories.
on the other hand, there are many israelis who are fed up with and oppose the brutal occupation, and the dire humanitarian situation that israel's apartheid policies put the palestinians into. most of the victims of hamas' recent barbarism, however, did nothing to contribute to the suffering in gaza. they are the innocent victims of a never-ending cycle of violence.

also, it's not like there aren't plenty of radicals within the palestinian leadership, who are also not interested in peace and reconciliation. a fair few of them seem hell-bent on inflicting as much damage as possible to israel, no matter the cost, no matter who the victims are.
