Sorry but you were firstly saying "Making God in your own image?"... then now you are talking about "hostile neighbouring nations" ... and asking for a "solution to a problem"
Which countries are you talking about and what is the problem exactly ?
Let's first start with some Bible verses.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14
Israel Must Not Live Like Other Nations
9 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, don’t learn to do the terrible things the people of the other nations there do. 10 Don’t sacrifice your sons or daughters in the fires on your altars. Don’t try to learn what will happen in the future by talking to a fortuneteller or by going to a magician, a witch, or a sorcerer. 11 Don’t let anyone try to put magic spells on other people. Don’t let any of your people become a medium or a wizard. And no one should try to talk with someone who has died. 12 The Lord hates anyone who does these things. And because these other nations do these terrible things, the Lord your God will force them out of the land as you enter it. 13 You must be faithful to the Lord your God, never doing anything he considers wrong.
The Lord’s Special Prophet
14 “You will force the other nations out of your land. They listen to people who use magic and try to tell the future. But the Lord your God will not let you do these things.
Now let's see what happens.
Numbers 25:1-3
Moab Seduces Israel
25 While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, 2 who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. 3 So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them.
1 Samuel 8:19-20
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
The Lord God knows that if Israel lets the other nations live then they will be tempted and seduced by their way of life and worship their gods. They will reject the Living God who brought them up out of Egypt.
The Lord said it himself, he hates anyone who tries to talk to a fortuneteller or goes to a magician, a witch, or a sorcerer.
The other nations will soon realize that they cannot beat Israel by sheer strength so they instead begin to seduce Israel and get them to worship their gods. It works as well as the Lord's anger will burn against Israel.
So the problem is that if Israel let the other nations live then they will be seduced and want to be like the other nations, thus rejecting the Lord their God. Now you come along and have a problem with parts of the Bible like 1 Samuel 15.

A God who also does genocides and order murders... Your scripture is obviously a sad fairy tale and you know it.
So, how do you deal with this problem and stop Israel from going astray?
