the fight against equal opportunity is mostly lead by people trying to equate equal opportunity with equal outcomes in order to justify inequal opportunity (the false ideology is strong in them). disgusting

This made little sense, you may need to reword it. The fact of life is that everyone is entitled to their own actions (equal opportunity), but no one is entitled to the consequences of those actions (inequal outcomes). People can only make changes in their actions in order to change the relative probabilities of outcomes.

My point is that a society shouldn't pick favorites and force them into a heirarcy like what the state tends to today. It makes more sense to let people float to their own level based on their actions/character and use the system as a tool to help them buoyantly float there than it does to overregulate the self-correcting mechanisms present when people choose their own fates for themselves and then live with the consequences.

It really is delightful to hear from you fellows all about how liberalism is the new communism.

make me feel all edgy and stuff.

They're both very similar, they both wish to correct human nature by pretending it doesn't exist to some degree.

You guys are saying the same thing, equal opportunity not results.

We can't begin to even talk about merit, action, and character, until the starting lines are at least somewhat leveled.

I think it is an unassailable intellectual position when considering the veil of ignorance and original position arguments of Rawls.

You're still conflating equality of outcome with equality of opportunity. The thing with your invocation of the veil of ignorance is that you see no problem with shared misery.

Sure, there's work to do on getting to more even starting lines, but that goes part and parcel with equality of opportunity. You imply that the only means of achieving such a goal is enforcing equality of outcome.

Not to be confused with the cartoon thread, please use this thread to post pictures (including memes) of anything you find politically relevant (or even not so relevant).

I guess we should agree on what the disadvantages are exactly first.

I'd also argue that starting lines will never be equal because of their random nature, and that attempts to reduce them actually create more disadvantaged persons in the long run by reducing the negative feedback on said groups.

starting lines for individual people sure, starting lines for entire races, not so much.

when you have a white and a black person, there is no reason to expect them to have the same starting line, as they are 2 different individuals.

when you have all the white people averaged and all the black people averaged, the starting lines should be pretty damn close, just as youd expect the average starting line for 1000 people from western PA to be pretty darn close to the average starting line for 1000 people from eastern PA.
