I think it's more than just gas prices. Biden promised a return to normalcy and wasn't able to deliver so far. Leaving covid behind took at least 9 months longer than most people had anticipated in early 2021, his legislative agenda in Congress is a mess, supply chains and the labor market are a mess, his handling of the border is a mess, his handling of Afghanistan was a mess, and now, just as covid is vanquished once and for all *knockonwood*, all hell breaks loose with Russia/Ukraine - which will see inflation rates soar even higher in the short term.

Biden is just presiding over a shitty time for the world (several but not all aspects of which are of his own making) and voters are punishing him for it.

Many issues were caused or exacerbated by him, but 2021 being a shitty time was pretty much an inevitability. I also don't fault Biden too much for the war in Ukraine, Putin just lost his damn mind and acted irrationally while he was always level-headed and only taking carefully calculated risks before.
